OPERATION HADIN KAI RESCUES 360 ABDUCTEES IN MANDARA MOUNTAINS
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have rescued 360 abducted civilians from a JAS stronghold in the Mandara Mountains of southern Borno State.
The victims—men, women, and children—were found in difficult conditions after being held for weeks in captivity. Many were reportedly abducted from communities around the Ngoshe axis.
Military sources said the rescue followed weeks of coordinated intelligence work, surveillance, and careful operational planning aimed at locating the hostages and assessing the terrain.
The operation involved Special Forces and troops from Sector 1 under OPHK. Acting on credible intelligence, the military tracked the movement of the insurgents and identified the exact location of the enclave deep within the mountainous area.
Intelligence teams combined information from human sources, signal monitoring, and aerial surveillance to build a clear picture of the area. This helped commanders understand how the terrorists operated and where the abductees were being kept.
Further breakthroughs came when field intelligence assets confirmed the location of the hostages and provided updates on insurgent movements within the area. This allowed troops to plan the rescue with greater precision and reduce risks to the captives.
Officials say the intelligence advantage was also confused within the insurgent group ahead of the operation, weakening their coordination and response.
The rescued civilians have since been secured and are receiving appropriate care.
