The Gombe State Government has unveiled a one-megawatt solar mini-grid project for Tallase and Swa communities in Balanga Local Government Area, saying the facility has reached 95 per cent completion and will restore electricity to the two communities after more than 15 years without public power supply.
The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday on the progress of projects being executed by the Joint Projects Development Agency.
According to the statement, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya initiated the project to revive socio-economic activities, improve agricultural productivity and enhance the quality of life in underserved communities.
The government said residents of Tallase and Swa would soon begin to enjoy reliable and sustainable electricity capable of stimulating businesses, improving livelihoods and supporting local development.
“With the project nearing completion, residents are set to enjoy reliable and sustainable electricity that will stimulate businesses, improve livelihoods and support local development,” the statement said.
It added that the project forms part of the state’s rural electrification programme aimed at expanding access to clean and affordable energy across Gombe.
The government also disclosed that 52 additional communities have been earmarked to benefit from similar solar mini-grid projects under the initiative.
It reaffirmed its commitment to improving infrastructure and expanding access to electricity as part of efforts to promote economic growth and rural development across the state.

The Gombe solar mini-grid initiative is expected to improve energy access while supporting the state’s broader renewable energy and rural development agenda.
