The Avatar cycle continues. Fourteen years after The Legend of Korra first premiered, Nickelodeon and Paramount have unveiled the first official teaser for Avatar: Seven Havens, the next mainline animated series in the Avatar universe. The trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 and confirms the show will premiere globally on Paramount+ on October 9, 2026.
Co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko returned to develop the series, marking their first full TV return to the franchise since Korra. The announcement was made during a 20th anniversary panel for Avatar: The Last Airbender alongside director Lauren Montgomery and members of the new voice cast.
Meet The New Avatar: Pavi
The trailer introduces Pavi, voiced by Saheli Khan, a young Earthbender who discovers she is the next Avatar after Korra. Unlike Aang and Korra, Pavi steps into a world that does not welcome her. The official logline describes an era where “humanity views the Avatar as a destroyer, not a savior”.
First-look art revealed at SDCC 2025 showed Pavi in a desert landscape with two companions: Jae, her mentor, and Geet, a cute furry animal partner. The backdrop included the city of Allura, believed to be one of the Seven Havens, the last strongholds of civilization.
The series will also explore Pavi’s relationship with her long-lost twin, who is also an Earthbender. Together they must “uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse”.
A World Shattered By Cataclysm
Seven Havens is set after a devastating cataclysm that tore apart both the mortal and spirit realms. That disaster fractured trust in the Avatar, turning the title from protector to feared figure. Pavi will be hunted by both human and spirit enemies as she tries to master all four elements.
The 2D-animated series is ordered for 26 episodes across two seasons, or “books” of 13 episodes each. It was originally slated for Nickelodeon in 2027, but during SDCC 2026 Paramount announced it would premiere earlier and exclusively on Paramount+.
Animation is being handled by French studio La Chouette Compagnie. DiMartino and Konietzko said the art direction was influenced by French surrealist artist Jean Giraud and 1990s anime. Jeremy Zuckerman, who scored both Avatar and Korra with Benjamin Wynn, returns to compose the music.
Korra Returns, And More
The teaser even includes a brief appearance from an older version of Korra, voiced again by Janet Varney. While details of her role are under wraps, her presence confirms a direct link to the previous series.
The new ensemble cast includes Aishu Devan, Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan, and Dee Bradley Baker in starring and supporting roles.
SDCC panelists described the show as “full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters,” while emphasizing that the tone will be darker than past Avatar series due to the world’s distrust of the Avatar.
Why This Matters For The Franchise
Seven Havens arrives at a busy time for Avatar fans. Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender has completed two seasons, and Paramount’s animated film The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender was originally scheduled for the same October 9 date before being moved.
This series is the second animated sequel after Korra and the first to be fully overseen by Avatar Studios since its formation. With 26 episodes ordered, it represents the biggest TV commitment to the franchise since the original.
The timing is also symbolic. The trailer drop coincided with the 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which began in 2005. Creators used the panel to reflect on the legacy while pushing the story forward into uncharted territory.
What To Expect Next
Paramount confirmed Avatar: Seven Havens premieres October 9, 2026 on Paramount+. The exact rollout for Book 2 has not been announced yet.
For now, fans can watch the official teaser released at SDCC, which gives the first real look at Pavi’s bending, the ruined landscapes of the post-cataclysm world, and glimpses of spirit realm threats.
After years of waiting, the Avatar cycle is moving forward, but this time, the world may not want saving.
