Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Saturday commissioned the Remawa Health Clinic in Rimi Local Government Area and announced the enrolment of 1,000 vulnerable residents into the Katsina State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency health insurance scheme.
The clinic, constructed by a Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Binta Remawa, is expected to improve access to primary healthcare for residents of Remawa and neighbouring communities.
Governor Radda disclosed this during the inauguration of the facility in Remawa, according to a press statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
The governor described his visit as historic, saying he was the first sitting governor to officially visit Remawa since Katsina State was created 39 years ago.
He commended Justice Remawa for constructing the health clinic, staff quarters and a solar-powered borehole, urging residents to protect the facilities.
“This facility, the quarters and water project are now yours. Protect them, maintain them and safeguard them so that our people can continue to benefit,” Radda said.
The governor announced that beneficiaries of the health insurance scheme would be drawn from Remawa, Yargamna, Yartsamiya and Yarnabanye communities.
According to the statement, the beneficiaries include pregnant women, children under five, elderly persons aged 60 and above, and persons with disabilities.
Radda also directed the Ministry of Health to provide drugs, deploy health personnel and ensure regular maintenance of the facility.
He further assured residents that construction of the Remawa road would commence before the end of the year or early next year, while pledging to renovate the town’s Juma’at Mosque with his personal resources.
On education, the governor directed the Commissioner for Education to assess the expansion of the Community Secondary School in Remawa and facilitate the completion of three additional classrooms.
He also ordered the recruitment and deployment of qualified NCE holders from the area to teach in their communities under the state’s local teacher recruitment policy.
Speaking at the event, Justice Binta Remawa said the project was initiated to address the community’s long-standing healthcare and water challenges.
She explained that the facility was equipped with 24-hour solar power, solar streetlights, staff quarters and a solar-powered borehole drilled to 130 metres to provide sustainable healthcare services.
Justice Remawa appealed to the state government to support the completion of the Community Secondary School and construct a township road for the community.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, represented by the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Shamsudeen Yahaya, said the facility would serve Remawa and neighbouring communities, including Yargamna, Yartsamiya and Yarnabanye.
He disclosed that the state government had renovated eight health facilities in Rimi Local Government Area, constructed staff quarters, provided tricycle ambulances and recruited 30 permanent health workers to strengthen primary healthcare services.
West Trybe reports that Katsina State has continued to expand access to primary healthcare through infrastructure development, health insurance coverage and workforce recruitment as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery, particularly in rural communities.
