Katsina State’s Internally Generated Revenue has risen from about ₦600 million monthly in 2023 to more than ₦3 billion monthly in 2026, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has disclosed.

Radda made the disclosure on Thursday while speaking as a panelist at the launch of the World Bank’s Nigeria Development Update at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, with the theme, “Beyond the Federal Purse: How Higher Revenues Reshaped State Priorities.”

The governor said the increase in the state’s internally generated revenue, alongside improved allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee, had provided his administration with greater resources to invest in critical sectors.

According to him, the additional resources resulting from improved revenue collection and federal economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been channelled into healthcare, education, agriculture and other areas of development.

Radda said his administration had reconstructed and equipped more than 270 primary healthcare centres across the state, while also establishing an ambulance service system with 15 advanced ambulances.

He added that six comprehensive health centres had been upgraded to general hospitals, while the state established an advanced dialysis centre as well as an imaging and cancer centre.

The governor further disclosed that more than 2,000 healthcare professionals had been recruited as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.

In education, Radda said the state had constructed more than 170 new schools and renovated over 500 others.

He also listed the construction of three model schools, recruitment of more than 10,000 teachers and training of over 25,000 teachers among the interventions undertaken by his administration.

The governor said agriculture had equally received significant investment, describing Katsina’s mechanisation programme as the largest by any sub-national government in Nigeria.

According to him, the state has acquired more than 400 modern tractors alongside thousands of other mechanised agricultural equipment.

Radda also disclosed that more than 1,000 youths had been trained and supported financially to venture into agribusiness, while over 60,000 tonnes of fertiliser were distributed annually to farmers.

He said more than 5,000 irrigation equipment had also been distributed to farmers as part of measures to increase agricultural production and improve food security.

The governor linked the interventions to the state’s broader effort to reduce the cost of food and improve economic opportunities for residents.

On the state’s financial position, Radda said Katsina had also reduced its domestic debt from ₦62 billion in 2022 to ₦14 billion in 2025.

The disclosure came as the governor highlighted the state’s efforts to improve its internally generated revenue while managing its debt obligations and using available resources to fund development projects.

Radda also said Katsina had recorded a seven per cent reduction in its malnutrition rate.

He added that the number of out-of-school children in the state had declined from more than 500,000 to about 200,000.

The governor further reaffirmed that his administration had fully implemented financial autonomy for local governments in the state.

His presentation at the World Bank event focused on how improved revenues and changes in federal fiscal conditions were affecting the priorities of state governments.

The forum brought together senior government officials and economic policy stakeholders, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, the Special Adviser to the President on Energy and the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria responsible for Financial Systems Stability.

Others in attendance included Taiwo Oyedele, Lamido Yuguda, representing the CBN Governor, and Dr Tayo Aduloju, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.

The Katsina governor’s presentation placed the state’s revenue increase within the wider debate on how states can reduce dependence on federal transfers and strengthen their capacity to finance development.

The rise from ₦600 million to more than ₦3 billion in monthly IGR represents a fivefold increase from the 2023 level cited by the governor.

Radda’s administration said the improved revenue position had allowed the state to expand investments in sectors including healthcare, education and agriculture while also reducing its domestic debt burden.

West Trybe reports that Katsina’s reported increase in monthly IGR comes amid growing pressure on Nigerian states to strengthen their internally generated revenue, manage debt sustainably and use available resources to fund essential services and development projects.
