LinkedIn Introduces Video Covers for Articles and Newsletters to Boost Engagement

LinkedIn has rolled out a new feature designed to help creators and brands capture more attention: video cover headers for articles and newsletters.

This update allows users to add a short video to the top of their LinkedIn articles and newsletter issues, turning static content into a more dynamic, eye-catching experience—especially in the feed.

What’s New?

The new feature replaces the standard header image with a video cover, offering a more engaging preview in the main LinkedIn feed and subscriber emails. As seen in a recent post by social media analyst Lindsey Gamble, LinkedIn now prompts users to “add a cover image or video” when publishing articles.

This change affects both individual creators and company pages, including those already leveraging LinkedIn’s long-form article and newsletter tools.

Why It Matters

LinkedIn reports that:

  • Videos are 20x more likely to be shared than other content types
  • Video viewership is up 36% year-over-year
  • Posts with video generate 1.4x more engagement

These stats underline the growing power of video on LinkedIn. By combining that with native article reach, creators and brands can potentially see higher visibility and follower growth.

Best Practices for Video Covers

LinkedIn recommends:

  • Format: Horizontal videos (16:9 aspect ratio)
  • Length: 30 seconds or less
  • Content: Clear, concise, and visually engaging

These videos will auto-play in-feed, making it easier to attract clicks and increase time spent on your content.

What About Newsletters and Company Pages?

This feature isn’t limited to individual users.

  • Newsletters can now include video headers
  • Company Pages can use video to enhance brand storytelling
  • Subscribers will see the video thumbnail in email previews

For brands using LinkedIn to publish thought leadership or product updates, this is a new way to stand out and connect with professional audiences.

Rollout Timeline

According to LinkedIn, the video cover feature is rolling out globally over the coming weeks. Most users should have access by mid-July 2025.
