The NYSC has declared NERD clearance compulsory for all prospective corps members, warning that no mobilization will proceed without it.

The National Youth Service Corps warned prospective corps members that they will not be mobilized for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database, known as NERD. The warning came as the scheme continues preparations for the mobilization of a fresh batch of prospective corps members while also intensifying efforts to ensure their safety during orientation camp journeys.
On Monday, in a public notice shared on its official X account, the NYSC declared that NERD clearance is now compulsory for all prospective corps members. The scheme urged prospective corps members to complete the process early to avoid delays in mobilization. No exemptions were stated in the notice.
The NYSC stated in its notice: “This is to inform PCMs that without NERD clearance, there is no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilization.” The acronym PCMs refers to Prospective Corps Members, the standard designation used by the scheme.
Reiterating the binding nature of the directive, the scheme stated, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, no NYSC.” Both statements appeared in the same official post on the scheme’s X account on Monday.
The scheme did not provide additional details about the clearance process in the notice, but the directive pointed to a stricter verification regime as preparations continue for the next orientation exercise. Prospective corps members were not given a specific deadline beyond the general instruction to act early and ensure their documentation was complete.
The advisory came barely hours after the NYSC announced the mobilization of another batch of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch B service year, urging institutions and eligible graduates to complete all necessary documentation ahead of the orientation exercise. Both announcements were made on the same day.
The NERD clearance directive also follows a separate recent safety advisory by the scheme in which prospective corps members were warned against travelling at night to orientation camps. That advisory carried its own set of instructions for those preparing to travel.
The NYSC advised prospective corps members to break their journeys whenever necessary and lodge in safe locations or designated military and security formations where available, rather than risk travelling after dark. No specific route or state was identified in that advisory.
Together, the two advisories, one on documentation and one on travel safety, form the clearest public signal yet of how the scheme is managing both the integrity and the logistics of the 2026 Batch B mobilization cycle. Neither notice named the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, as the signatory.
Yet the back-to-back nature of the announcements on Monday left little doubt that the scheme is tightening its pre-mobilization process on multiple fronts simultaneously, covering verification, documentation, and physical safety in one coordinated communication push.
The safety directive, which preceded the NERD announcement, told corps members to break journeys whenever necessary and seek out military or security formations for lodging rather than travelling to camps after dark. Officials did not state what enforcement measures, if any, apply to that advisory.
By Monday evening, no statement had been issued clarifying what happens to a prospective corps member who arrives at an orientation camp without NERD clearance or whether any appeal process exists. The scheme’s Monday notice contained no such provisions.
Institutions and eligible graduates were separately urged to complete all necessary documentation ahead of the orientation exercise as part of the 2026 Batch B mobilization announcement. The scheme did not name specific institutions or provide a detailed checklist of required documents in either notice.
Prospective corps members who fail to obtain NERD clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database will not be mobilized for national service, the scheme confirmed. The directive applies to all prospective corps members without exception, based on the text of the Monday notice.
