Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have rescued six additional abducted persons, including four adults and two infants, during a search-and-rescue operation in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The military also recovered 50 rounds of PKT ammunition abandoned by fleeing insurgents during the operation.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.
He said the latest breakthrough followed sustained air and ground operations backed by credible intelligence.
According to him, the victims were rescued at Talakawa in Chibok Local Government Area after they were abducted from Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area in May.
“Following sustained air and ground exploitation supported by credible intelligence, troops successfully rescued six additional abducted persons comprising four adults and two infants at Talakawa in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State,” Goni said.
He added that the rescued victims had been evacuated to a secure location for medical evaluation and treatment.
“The victims have been evacuated to a secure location where they are undergoing comprehensive medical evaluation and receiving appropriate care.
“Operation Hadin Kai has also provided immediate relief materials and other basic necessities to alleviate the effects of their ordeal, while arrangements are being made for their safe reunification with their families,” he said.
Goni described the operation as another indication of the effectiveness of the military’s ongoing offensive against insurgents in the North-East.
“This latest success further demonstrates the effectiveness of the coordinated search-and-rescue efforts by Operation Hadin Kai and reinforces the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Borno State Government, security agencies and auxiliary forces to the safe recovery of all abducted persons,” he said.
He noted that troops remained on the offensive against fleeing terrorists.
“Troops remain in aggressive pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, maintaining relentless pressure along their withdrawal routes and denying them freedom of action,” he said.
The military spokesman added that troops recovered 50 rounds of PKT ammunition during the exploitation of the terrorists’ withdrawal routes.
“During the exploitation of the terrorists’ withdrawal axis, troops recovered 50 rounds of PKT ammunition abandoned by the insurgents, further highlighting the effectiveness of the sustained offensive and the disordered nature of the terrorists’ retreat under intense military pressure,” he said.
Goni assured residents that the operation would continue until all remaining abducted persons were rescued.
“Operation Hadin Kai reassures the public that search-and-rescue operations will continue with renewed vigour until every remaining victim is safely accounted for.
“The Theatre Command urges all law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies promptly. Members of the public are equally advised to disregard unverified information capable of causing unnecessary anxiety.
“Operation Hadin Kai remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property, decisively defeat terrorism, and restore enduring peace and stability across the North-East,” he added.
