The clip, edited to include AI-cloned audio of Tinubu making inflammatory claims about insecurity, elections, and hardships, led presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga to demand VeryDarkMan face legal consequences for spreading it. Fact-checks by Premium Times and BBC Pidgin revealed VDM’s original May 25 Instagram post featured a genuine 2023 campaign clip of Tinubu on electricity promises, not the fake. VDM hit back, blasting Onanuga and challenging authorities over their silence on child kidnappings, while the incident highlights growing AI deepfake worries in Nigeria’s tense online debates.
On wednesday in a tweet from one of the presidency, he tweeted in reaction to the circulation video he saw online on an X page with a username @pious_minister, Pious in his post tweeted ; ” how do you really convince someone who has already decided and believes in their mind that this is actually Asiwaju’s voice? What kind of cheap propaganda is this?

Bayo Onanuga then quote retweet by saying ”This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform.”
Some hours later Verydarkman came online on his instagram page, he then fires back by recording a video with almost 20 minutes duration insulting the presidency and calling him a very stupid man, and claiming that presidency have been silent since, despite the killing and kipnaping of student and teachers in oyo state and its environ. He claim that the circulated video trending isnt from him and that he has no hands in any presidential audio leak.
Verydarkman lawyer Comrade Deji Adeyanju also make a tweet about the incident where he said in his statement below;
”Statement on False Attribution and Circulation of Doctored Audio Purportedly Linked to Mr. Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan).
The attention of our client has been drawn to the statement made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, concerning a doctored audio currently circulating online and falsely attributed to our client, Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. A simple verification of our client’s verified social media platforms would have confirmed that he neither made nor shared the said audio. It is therefore surprising that, despite the resources available to the Presidency, adverse comments were made concerning our client without proper verification of the facts. This development further validates our client’s longstanding concerns regarding attempts to cage him by powerful people in government and discredit him on account of his outspoken views on matters of public interest. We accordingly call on the relevant security agencies to investigate the source and circulation of the doctored audio and ensure that those responsible are identified and dealt with in accordance with the law.”
The whole issue still remain unclear and the Presidency are yet to make a comment on it.
