Arsenal is exploring a deal for Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior, 26, as Real Madrid pushes an £85.4m bid for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, reports on Saturday confirmed.

Arsenal are exploring a potential deal to sign Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, 26, with Sky Sports News reporting on Saturday that the Premier League club’s interest is genuine despite no club-to-club contact having taken place between the two sides.
Vinicius has entered the final year of his contract at Real Madrid. If the Spanish club cannot agree a new deal with the Brazilian international, they could choose to sell him rather than risk losing him without a transfer fee the following summer agreed upon
Sky Sports News analyst Peter Smith called the prospect a “jaw-dropping addition” for Arsenal. “It’s well known Arsenal are aiming to strengthen their left-wing options this summer, but a deal for Brazil ace Vinicius Junior would be a jaw-dropping addition,” Smith told the outlet.
Vinicius is one of several forward targets Arsenal are currently exploring. Julian Alvarez, Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig, and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola also appear on the club’s list of options for the left side.
Real Madrid’s pursuit of Diomande, 19, is a central factor in how the Vinicius situation could develop. Sky Sports, talkSPORT, and other outlets reported Saturday that Real Madrid had an £85.4m bid for the Ivorian winger rejected by RB Leipzig, with the German club holding out for a higher fee.
A Yahoo Sports report said Diomande had initially preferred a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but PSG had not completed an agreement with Leipzig despite weeks of talks. That hesitation opened a path for Real Madrid to advance their own pursuit of the 19-year-old.
talkSPORT reported Saturday that Real Madrid was intensifying its efforts to sign Diomande after the first bid was turned down, with the club expected to return with a revised offer for the Ivory Coast international.
Arsenal and Liverpool have both shown interest in Diomande, according to reports. But if Real Madrid complete a deal for the Leipzig winger as a replacement for Vinicius, the Brazilian could become open to leaving the Bernabeu this summer, the Yahoo Sports report said.
Smith added in his assessment: “Vinicius Jr. has one year left on his current Real Madrid contract, so this could be the window of opportunity for potential suitors to make their move as Real tries to tie the winger down to a new deal.”
Arsenal’s left-wing department has seen activity this window. The club sold Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for £17m and brought in Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m. Gabriel Martinelli scored one Premier League goal last season, a record that has driven the club’s push to reinforce that position.
Vinicius finished runner-up in the 2024 Ballon d’Or voting and is regarded as one of Real Madrid’s leading attackers. Brazilian outlet Ge reported this week that he would wear the captain’s armband at Real Madrid in the absence of Federico Valverde, having been named among the club’s captains for the new season.
His relationship with new Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho also drew attention. Smith noted that Vinicius and Mourinho had been in contact after an incident last season in which the winger was abused by Mourinho’s then-Benfica midfielder Gianluca Prestianni and that the two were ready to begin the new campaign together on a clean slate.
“But with Arsenal’s interest being reported, there is now the possibility Vinicius Junior will be kicking off the 2026/27 season in the Premier League,” Smith said, according to the Sky Sports report published Saturday.
No deal for either Vinicius or Diomande had been agreed as of Saturday. Arsenal’s interest in the Real Madrid winger remains at the exploratory stage, with the outcome of Real Madrid’s pursuit of Diomande likely to shape the direction of any potential move.
