Bandits Kill Community Guard, Abduct Several Residents in Sokoto

Suspected bandits have killed a community guard and abducted several residents during an attack on a community in Sokoto State, further highlighting the security challenges facing parts of northwestern Nigeria.

According to local sources, the armed attackers stormed the community and opened fire, causing panic among residents. During the attack, a member of the local security outfit was killed while attempting to protect the community.

The gunmen also kidnapped an unspecified number of residents before fleeing into nearby forests. Witnesses said many families have been left distressed as they await information about the whereabouts of their loved ones.

Security personnel have reportedly launched efforts to track down the attackers and secure the release of those abducted. However, authorities had yet to provide full details of the incident at the time of this report.

The latest attack adds to a series of violent incidents linked to armed groups operating across parts of Sokoto and neighboring states, where communities continue to face threats of killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling.

Residents have called for increased security presence in vulnerable areas, urging authorities to take stronger measures to protect lives and property.
