BNXN, Runtown and Patoranking will headline Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day Parade in New York, giving Nigerians in the United States another major reason to gather, celebrate and reconnect with home.

The three Nigerian music stars have been announced as the headline performers for the 2026 Nigerian Independence Day Parade and Carnival, scheduled for Saturday, October 3, in New York City.

The event will bring together Nigerians, friends of Nigeria and members of the wider African diaspora for a celebration built around music, culture, food, fashion and national identity.

The announcement adds a strong Afrobeats presence to what has become an important annual gathering for Nigerians living outside the country.

BNXN, Runtown and Patoranking are expected to be among the biggest attractions at this year’s celebration.

BNXN, whose real name is Daniel Benson, has established himself as one of the prominent voices in Nigeria’s modern Afrobeats scene.

Runtown, born Douglas Jack Agu, is known for a career that has included major Nigerian and international hits, while Patoranking, whose real name is Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, has built a strong reputation through his blend of reggae, dancehall and Afrobeats.

Their selection gives the parade a mix of different eras and sounds within contemporary Nigerian music. For fans in New York, the performances also offer an opportunity to see three established Nigerian artistes brought together under the same Independence Day celebration.

The organisers said the trio’s participation would be one of the major highlights of the entertainment programme.

New York Parade Set for October 3

The 2026 Nigerian Independence Day Parade and Carnival is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The official website of the Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians lists the parade gathering for 10:00 a.m. on East 38th Street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue in New York City. Event listings also indicate that a festival programme will follow the parade, with live music and cultural activities forming part of the wider celebration.

The event comes just two days after Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1. Nigeria became independent from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, making 2026 the country’s 66th Independence anniversary.

For Nigerians in the United States, the New York celebration provides a chance to mark the occasion collectively rather than celebrating only within individual homes and communities.

Although the headline performances are expected to draw significant attention, organisers say the parade is about much more than entertainment.

The Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians, working with partner organisations under the Nigerian Independence Day Committee, plans to use the celebration to showcase aspects of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

Music, fashion, food and dance are expected to feature prominently, alongside the traditional displays and community participation that have become associated with the annual parade.

The organisers have also stressed the importance of keeping younger Nigerians in the diaspora connected to their heritage. For children and young people born or raised in the United States, events such as the parade provide a public setting where Nigerian music, traditional clothing, food, languages and cultural traditions can be experienced firsthand.

That cultural element remains central to the parade’s identity. The OAN says it has coordinated Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration in New York since 1991 and describes the event as a major celebration of Nigerian culture outside Africa. The organisation itself was founded in 1989 to support the Nigerian community in the United States and promote Nigerian culture and community development.

Why the 2026 Celebration Matters

The choice of three popular Nigerian artistes also reflects the growing international reach of Nigerian music.

Afrobeats has become one of the most visible parts of Nigeria’s cultural influence around the world, with Nigerian artistes regularly performing for audiences outside Africa.

Having BNXN, Runtown and Patoranking headline an Independence Day event in New York gives the celebration a clear connection between Nigeria’s cultural identity at home and its growing global audience.

For the Nigerian diaspora, the significance is equally personal. Independence celebrations can serve as a reminder of shared roots even for people who have spent most of their lives abroad.

The organisers have therefore positioned the parade as both a celebration and a way of strengthening connections between generations of Nigerians in the United States.

Sponsors and Community Support

The 2026 parade is being supported by corporate and community partners, with Montefiore identified by organisers as the major sponsor and NUFF JAMZ Entertainment Incorporated, New York, serving as a promotional sponsor.

Organisers have also acknowledged the support of Nigeria’s Consul General in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, while calling on businesses, institutions and community organisations to support the celebration.

According to the organisers, sponsorship is not simply about funding a single day of festivities. It also helps sustain cultural programmes and create opportunities for younger Nigerians in the diaspora to remain connected to their Nigerian heritage.

With BNXN, Runtown and Patoranking leading the entertainment programme, this year’s parade is shaping up as a major gathering for Nigerians and friends of Nigeria in New York.

The celebration will be open to the public, including Nigerians, members of the wider African diaspora and friends of Nigeria who want to experience the country’s culture and Independence Day spirit in the heart of New York City.
