Afrobeats superstar Davido has officially revealed details of his sixth studio album Oriadé, setting July 31, 2026 as the release date and teasing a project he calls his most intentional and expansive yet. The announcement, made on June 29 via a regal trailer on social media, marks 15 years since Davido broke into the mainstream with Dami Duro. And while he’s yet to drop the full list of featured artists, the build-up already positions Oriadé as one of the biggest African album releases of 2026.
A Royal Title With Deeper Meaning
The album title ORIADÉ is a portmanteau of two Yoruba words: ori meaning “head” or “destiny” and adé meaning “crown”.
According to Davido, the project reflects a period of reflection and gratitude, drawing inspiration from his personal journey toward fulfilling his purpose.“ORIADÉ is about purpose. It’s about understanding that before the world recognizes you, before the accolades, before the success, there’s a version of you that already knows who you’re meant to become,” he said.
In the trailer, Davido appeared in traditional Yoruba attire with a rousing eulogy in Yoruba playing in the background. He captioned the post: “The kingdom expands. Chosen long before the throne.”
13 Songs, All Bangers
Unlike his previous five studio albums which all contained 17 tracks, will have 13 songs.“13 songs, all bangers, and I can’t wait for you guys to hear it,” Davido told American media platform Notion. “There are songs for the ladies, songs for the guys, songs about struggle, and I can’t wait for it to drop.”
The shorter tracklist signals a more focused body of work. Davido has described the sound as a return to the “really, really African” music that first introduced him to audiences over a decade ago.“The recent music I’ve been working on is really, really African. I’m taking it back to my original Davido kind of music,” he said.
The Lead Single And Star Power
The album campaign kicked off on June 26 with lead single “I Know Who I Be” featuring South African hitmakers JAZZWRLD and GL Ceejay. The three-step record sees Davido further explore the Amapiano-infused sound that helped power his 2025 smash Nakupenda.
While the full Oriadé tracklist and features are yet to be revealed, expectations are high following the global roll call on his last project, 5ive. That 2025 album earned Davido another top-five entry on the Billboard World Albums chart and featured Victoria Monét, YG Marley, Shenseea, Chris Brown, Becky G, and Omah Lay. The Omah Lay collaboration With You became one of Afrobeats’ defining records of 2025 and earned him a Grammy nomination.
Fans are already speculating about who will appear on Oriadé, with many hoping for another mix of African and international heavyweights.
A Milestone Year For OBO
The Oriadé announcement caps off a remarkable year for Davido.In April, he made his Coachella debut with a 45-minute set that included a surprise appearance from Adekunle Gold. He later joined Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado on No Place Like Home, which was featured on the official FIFA World Cup 2026 soundtrack.
Davido performed the song at the tournament’s countdown concert in Los Angeles, representing Nigeria and Africa on a global stage.“ Nigeria didn’t make it to the World Cup, so I was there representing, and the energy was off the roof,” he said.
With over 30 million followers across social media, Davido remains the most-followed Afrobeats artist in the world.
Oriadé arrives as the official follow-up to 5ive and will drop on July 31, 2026. Davido has promised more details, including the official tracklist and additional singles, in the weeks leading up to release.
Music platforms and critics are already calling it a potential defining statement in his career. After five consecutive top-five Billboard World Albums entries, a sold-out 5ive Alive world tour, and back-to-back Grammy nominations, Oriadé is set to further cement his place as one of Africa’s biggest music exports.
