Burna Boy and Shakira’s “Dai Dai” has reached 1 billion YouTube views, giving the FIFA World Cup 2026 official song another major global milestone and making it the first music video released in 2026 to cross the mark.

The achievement comes less than four months after the collaboration was released, highlighting the enormous worldwide attention surrounding the song and the two international stars behind it. The official video, published on Shakira’s YouTube channel, passed the billion-view mark in early September and has continued to attract millions of viewers.

‘Dai Dai’ Reaches 1 Billion Views

“Dai Dai” has now joined YouTube’s billion-view club, a milestone reached by only a relatively small number of music videos.

According to figures reported after the milestone, the video had surpassed 1 billion views alongside millions of likes on Shakira’s channel. Tracking data also lists “Shakira, Burna Boy – Dai Dai (Official Video)” among the music videos from 2026 that have crossed 1 billion views.

The achievement is particularly notable because “Dai Dai” is a new release rather than an older catalogue hit that accumulated views over several years.

Its rapid rise was helped by the global profile of both performers, the popularity of the FIFA World Cup and the song’s role as an official part of the tournament’s musical campaign.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Song Brings Shakira and Burna Boy Together

FIFA officially announced “Dai Dai” in May 2026 as the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Song. The track was released through Sony Music Latin and features Shakira alongside Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy.

FIFA described the collaboration as a celebration of football, culture and unity, bringing together two artists with strong international audiences.

The song was also connected to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. FIFA said royalties from “Dai Dai” would support the initiative, which aims to raise $100 million by the end of the tournament to expand access to quality education and football opportunities for children around the world.

Shakira agreed to donate her royalties from the song, while Sony Music pledged to match the first $250,000 raised.

That gave the release a purpose beyond the usual commercial campaign surrounding a major international song.

For Burna Boy, “Dai Dai” represents another significant step in the global expansion of Afrobeats.

The Nigerian singer has spent years building an international audience, with his music earning recognition well beyond Africa. His collaboration with Shakira places that sound directly within one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

The song blends the artists’ different musical backgrounds, bringing together Shakira’s Latin-pop identity and Burna Boy’s Afrobeats influence. The result fits the international character of a tournament involving 48 teams and hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The collaboration also gives Nigerian music another prominent connection to the FIFA World Cup stage. Burna Boy follows Davido, who appeared on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” with Trinidad Cardona and AISHA for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Shakira Returns to Her World Cup Era

The success of “Dai Dai” also adds another chapter to Shakira’s long association with World Cup music.

The Colombian superstar previously delivered “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. That song became one of the most recognisable football anthems of its generation and remains one of her biggest global hits.

“Dai Dai” therefore marks another return to territory that has already played a major role in Shakira’s career.

FIFA’s announcement also confirmed that Shakira would co-headline the 2026 World Cup final halftime show, adding another major performance opportunity to her involvement in the tournament.

A Global Hit Beyond the YouTube Milestone

The billion-view achievement is only one part of the song’s wider performance. “Dai Dai” received exposure throughout the World Cup, where football provided a huge international audience for the track. Shakira and Burna Boy also performed the song during the tournament’s opening festivities in Mexico City.

The song’s momentum has continued beyond the football matches, with reports highlighting its strong performance across streaming platforms and social media.

That combination of football, music and two globally recognised performers gave “Dai Dai” an unusually broad audience. Fans who discovered the song through the World Cup could then encounter it again on YouTube, streaming platforms and social media.

‘Dai Dai’ Makes 2026 Music History

Reaching 1 billion YouTube views is a significant achievement for any new music release. Doing it within the same year it was released makes the milestone even more striking.

Available tracking data currently places “Dai Dai” among the 2026 releases that have passed 1 billion views, while contemporary reports identify it as the first music video released in 2026 to reach the milestone.

For Burna Boy, the achievement further strengthens his position as one of Nigeria’s most internationally visible artists. For Shakira, it adds another billion-view video to a catalogue that already includes several of her biggest global hits.

Together, their FIFA World Cup collaboration has moved from a highly anticipated international release to a genuine YouTube phenomenon.

With the tournament now behind it, “Dai Dai” has secured a place among the standout music releases associated with the 2026 World Cup, and the billion-view milestone gives the song another record to celebrate.
