Released May 15, 2026, the FIFA anthem blends Afrobeats + Latin pop and sparks global debate vs “Waka Waka”
A Global Anthem Drops:
May 15, 2026 Shakira and Burna Boy’s “Dai Dai” debuted on May 15, 2026 as the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The track merges Latin pop, reggaeton, and Afrobeats into a 4-minute rallying cry.
FIFA said royalties will fund the Global Citizen Education Fund, aiming to raise $100M by July 2026 for children’s education + football access.
“Dai Dai” Meaning: 5 Languages, 1 Rallying Cry
“Dai Dai” comes from Italian and means “Come on!” or “Let’s go!”. The chorus is built for global sing-alongs: “Dai, dai, ikou, dale, allez, let’s go” – Italian, Japanese, Spanish, French, English.
Shakira adds Spanish lines in the chorus: “Dale / No olvide’ lo que vales / Juega como tú sabes” = “Come on / Don’t forget what you’re worth / Play as you know”.
The song salutes football legends Pelé, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Mohamed Salah.
Shakira & Burna Boy Speak: “Football and Music Speak the Same Language”Shakira produced “Dai Dai” herself, with Ed Sheeran listed as a co-writer.
This marks her 4th World Cup performance after Waka Waka 2010. Burna Boy called the collab “another major step on the world stage” for Afrobeats.
He added: “The World Cup is one of the few things the entire world experiences together. Football and music speak the same language. They bring people together no matter where you’re from and being part of this moment through music means a lot to me”.
Shakira performed the song live at the World Cup opening ceremony on June 11, 2026 at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca. She’ll co-headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show on July 19, 2026 with Madonna + BTS.
