The All Progressives Congress candidate, Engr. Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, has won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency bye-election held on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Kallamu secured 41,121 votes to defeat the other candidates in the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission across the three local government areas that make up the federal constituency.
The bye-election was held to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the death of the former representative of the constituency, Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo.
According to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, a total of 47,301 votes were cast during the election.
Of the total votes cast, 46,551 were declared valid, while 750 votes were rejected.
The APC candidate polled 41,121 votes to emerge winner, while the Labour Party candidate came second with 3,553 votes.

- APC — 41,121 votes
- LP — 3,553 votes
- APM — 872 votes
- NDP — 707 votes
With 41,121 votes, Kallamu secured the highest number of votes in the contest and emerged as the representative-elect for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.
The election was conducted across 903 polling units spread over 31 Registration Areas in Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas.
The result brings to an end the electoral process to fill the House of Representatives seat left vacant following the death of Tongo, who previously represented the constituency.
The bye-election had attracted political attention in Gombe State, with the constituency comprising three local government areas and a large number of registered voters across the polling units.
Voting took place across the constituency on Saturday, with security agencies deployed to polling locations to maintain order and protect the electoral process.
Before the election, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya had voted at his polling unit in Jekadafari Ward, Gombe Local Government Area, where he commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise and the turnout of voters.
The governor had described the election as peaceful and well organised, while urging voters and political actors to sustain the atmosphere throughout the exercise.
The bye-election was organised following the death of Tongo, creating the vacancy that necessitated the fresh election to determine his successor in the House of Representatives.
