Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reassigned two commissioners and appointed six new members to oversee vacant ministries in a cabinet reshuffle aimed at improving government operations.
The changes saw the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, moved to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while the former Commissioner for Solid Minerals Resources, Hamza Kachaco, was transferred to the Ministry of Environment.
The redeployments leave the Ministries of Information and Internal Affairs and Solid Minerals Resources without substantive commissioners.
The governor announced the changes on Friday, shortly after swearing in six commissioners, three advisers and 19 permanent secretaries as part of efforts to strengthen the state executive council.
Under the new cabinet arrangement, Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u (retd.) was assigned to the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, while Ibrahim Namadi Dala was named Commissioner for Commerce and Investment.
Professor Sani Lawan Manunfashi will oversee the Ministry of Higher Education, while Muktar Ishaq Yakasai was appointed Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The other appointments saw Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa assigned to the Ministry of Science and Technology, while Idris Garba Mustapha will head the Ministry of Special Duties.
The six commissioners were posted to ministries with existing vacancies in the state executive council.
Speaking on the changes, Yusuf said the appointments and redeployments were part of administrative measures to strengthen government institutions, improve efficiency and reposition key ministries for effective service delivery.
He urged the newly sworn-in officials to demonstrate dedication, integrity and commitment in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The governor also charged them to place public interest above personal considerations and uphold transparency and accountability in the management of government affairs.
He said the appointees were expected to work together in advancing the administration’s development agenda and delivering the dividends of democracy to residents.
Yusuf congratulated the new commissioners, advisers and permanent secretaries, wishing them success in their respective assignments.
The latest changes come shortly after the inauguration of the new officials, marking another adjustment to the composition and distribution of responsibilities within the Kano State Executive Council.
West Trybe reports that the reshuffle has altered the leadership of several key ministries, with six new commissioners taking charge of vacant portfolios and two serving commissioners receiving fresh assignments as the Yusuf administration seeks to improve coordination and service delivery.
