The Kano State Police Command has deployed 250 newly trained officers to border Local Government Areas across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security, increase police presence in frontline communities and improve response to distress calls.

The officers, comprising personnel of the ranks of Police Constable and Police Corporal, were deployed immediately after completing a one-month intensive Combat and Weapon Handling Training designed to improve their operational readiness.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Tuesday during the passing-out ceremony of the second batch of 250 officers who completed the training.

Bakori said the deployment was part of the command’s operational strategy to reinforce security around communities located along Kano’s borders, where effective policing and rapid response are considered critical to preventing and responding to criminal activities.

“In line with our operational priorities, the 250 officers graduating today will be deployed to border Local Government Areas of Kano State,” the commissioner said.

He added, “This strategic deployment is designed to strengthen border security, enhance our presence in frontline communities, and improve our rapid response to distress calls.”

The commissioner said the training was conducted simultaneously at the 9 Police Mobile Force, Hotoro, and 52 Police Mobile Force, Challawa, as part of efforts to improve the professional and operational capacity of personnel serving in the state.

He said the exercise was also in line with the strategic policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, particularly his emphasis on capacity building, professionalism and operational preparedness within the Nigeria Police Force.

Bakori described the passing-out ceremony as an important milestone in preparing the officers for the security responsibilities ahead, urging them to apply the skills acquired during the training in accordance with the law.

“It is with immense pride and a profound sense of duty that I welcome you all to this auspicious occasion of the passing out of the second batch of 250 police officers of the ranks of Police Constable and Police Corporal, who have successfully completed a one-month intensive Combat and Weapon Handling Training,” he said.

The commissioner said the officers underwent rigorous physical drills, tactical exercises, weapon-handling sessions and classroom instruction during the month-long course.

He commended them for their discipline, resilience and commitment throughout the training, stressing that operational effectiveness requires not only physical preparedness but also sound judgment and professionalism.

“For one full month, you endured demanding physical drills, tactical exercises, weapon handling, and classroom instructions. You have demonstrated that you are not only combat-ready, but also intellectually and morally prepared for the responsibilities ahead,” Bakori said.

He charged the newly trained personnel to justify the confidence placed in them by the police authorities and the communities they would be deployed to protect.

According to him, the current security environment requires officers to combine firmness in dealing with criminal elements with respect for the rights and dignity of law-abiding citizens.

The commissioner urged the officers to remain vigilant and professional while carrying out their duties, warning them against actions capable of undermining public confidence in the police.

He also directed them to be firm but fair in their dealings with residents and ensure that their conduct remained within the provisions of the law.

“Protect the vulnerable, partner with traditional and community leaders, and confront criminal elements with courage, but strictly within the confines of the law,” he said.

Bakori further urged the officers to maintain effective relationships with traditional rulers, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders in their areas of deployment.

He said cooperation with local communities would help the police obtain credible intelligence, identify emerging security threats and respond more effectively to incidents.

The commissioner also emphasised the importance of respecting the fundamental rights of citizens, saying effective policing should be based on professionalism, discipline and accountability.

He noted that the newly trained officers would be expected to use the knowledge acquired during the course to improve security operations and contribute to the protection of lives and property across the state.

The deployment comes as security agencies continue to strengthen their presence in vulnerable communities and areas bordering neighbouring states.

Border communities can serve as important routes for legitimate movement and trade but may also present security challenges when criminal elements exploit difficult terrain or movement corridors to evade security agencies.

The police command therefore considers the deployment of trained personnel to such areas necessary to increase its operational reach and improve its ability to respond to security threats.

The commissioner said the command would continue to invest in the professional development of its personnel through regular refresher training.

He said the objective was to ensure that officers remained adequately equipped with the knowledge, skills and operational capacity required to serve residents effectively and safely.

Bakori also reminded the officers that the uniform they wear carries a responsibility to protect citizens and uphold the law.

He urged them to demonstrate discipline at all times and avoid conduct that could damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.

The commissioner said the command would continue to strengthen its operational capacity in line with its responsibility to maintain peace and security across Kano State.

The passing-out ceremony marked the second batch of 250 officers to complete the specialised training, indicating the command’s ongoing effort to improve the readiness of its personnel.

The newly deployed officers are expected to commence duties in their respective border local government areas as the command intensifies security operations across the state.

The deployment is also expected to complement existing police personnel and other security agencies operating in the affected communities.

Bakori urged residents to support the officers by providing useful information and cooperating with security agencies to prevent criminal activities.

He said residents and security personnel must work together to create safer communities, particularly in areas where security challenges require sustained vigilance.

The commissioner assured the public that the command would continue to prioritise the protection of lives and property while maintaining respect for the rights of law-abiding citizens.

West Trybe reports that the deployment of the 250 officers forms part of the Kano State Police Command’s broader efforts to strengthen border security and improve operational readiness, with the command relying on specialised training, increased police presence and community collaboration to respond more effectively to security threats across the state.
