The Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) movement has inaugurated its campaign office in Abuja as Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, pledged to mobilise support across Northern Nigeria for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.
Yusuf gave the assurance on Saturday during the inauguration, which brought together political leaders and supporters to launch the movement’s campaign structure ahead of the elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said the North would support Tinubu’s second-term ambition, promising to mobilise voters across the region for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“I can guarantee the President that the North will support his second-term ambition,” Yusuf said.
The governor described Kano as a strategic state in the region’s electoral calculations, citing its large voting population and pledging to lead mobilisation efforts in support of Tinubu and the APC.
“Kano, as the state with the highest number of votes in Northern Nigeria, would, in sha Allah, lead all Nigerian states to secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with a massive turnout in favour of the APC,” he said.
The declaration places Kano at the centre of the movement’s proposed mobilisation strategy as political parties and support groups intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
A4A is designed to coordinate support for Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. Former Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, is serving as the movement’s national coordinator.
The inauguration of the Abuja office is intended to provide the group with a base for coordinating its activities, engaging political stakeholders and building networks across the region ahead of the polls.
However, Yusuf’s pledge represents his political commitment and the movement’s mobilisation ambition, rather than evidence of how Northern voters will ultimately cast their ballots in 2027.
The campaign launch also comes amid public concerns about economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and the cost of living, issues likely to feature prominently in political discussions as the election approaches.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Shettima acknowledged the economic difficulties facing Nigerians and stressed that political mobilisation must be accompanied by efforts to improve citizens’ welfare.
“We acknowledge the economic challenges facing citizens and stress the need for the administration to respond to their concerns while prioritising security, education, poverty reduction and economic opportunities,” Shettima said.
His remarks highlighted the importance of addressing citizens’ concerns as the administration seeks another mandate, particularly in areas affecting household incomes, access to education, personal safety and opportunities for economic advancement.
For A4A, the task ahead will involve translating its regional political structure into sustained engagement with voters, party stakeholders and community networks across Northern Nigeria.
The movement’s focus on the North reflects the region’s significance in national electoral calculations, given its size, population and political diversity. Nevertheless, support from political leaders does not automatically translate into votes, making grassroots mobilisation and public confidence important factors in any campaign.
Yusuf’s pledge also places expectations on the Kano political leadership to demonstrate how its proposed mobilisation would be organised and sustained across the state and beyond.
West Trybe reports that the inauguration of the A4A campaign office marks an early step in efforts to build a Northern political network for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. The movement’s eventual influence will depend not only on endorsements from political leaders but also on its ability to connect with voters and respond to concerns over economic hardship, insecurity, education and livelihoods.
