‘Crime Has No Ethnicity’ — Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Shun Ethnic Profiling Amid Security Challenges
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to stop attributing criminal acts to any ethnic group, warning that such narratives only deepen divisions and weaken the country’s collective resolve against insecurity.
Addressing the nation, the President stressed that criminality should be condemned without prejudice, regardless of the background of those involved.
“Crime has no ethnicity. Let us not assign blame or point fingers,” Tinubu said, urging citizens to avoid stigmatising entire communities over the actions of a few individuals.
He noted that the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes remains a top priority of his administration, assuring Nigerians that security agencies are making significant progress in restoring peace across troubled regions.
Tinubu emphasised that national unity is essential to defeating those threatening the country’s stability, adding that Nigerians must resist attempts to exploit ethnic and religious differences for political or selfish interests.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the nation’s security architecture through increased funding, improved intelligence gathering and enhanced support for the armed forces and other security agencies.
He expressed optimism that with unity, patriotism and cooperation, Nigeria would overcome its security challenges and emerge stronger.
Tinubu’s appeal comes amid heightened public debate over insecurity and concerns over the growing tendency to associate crimes with specific ethnic groups, a practice many observers say could fuel mistrust and social tension.
