Drake won over $1 million after Canada beat South Africa 1-0 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, collecting a $1,001,000 payout on a $770,000 stake bet.

Drake pocketed over a million dollars Sunday night after Canada edged South Africa 1-0 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, a result that earned the Toronto rapper a $1,001,000 payout on a $770,000 stake wager.

The match looked destined for extra time. But Stephen Eustáquio changed everything in the 92nd minute, collecting a cleared ball outside the box and striking a clean volley into the bottom corner of goalkeeper Ronwen Williams’ net.

Canada advanced to the Round of 16 for the first time in the nation’s men’s World Cup history. That single goal, struck with barely seconds remaining, rewrote the record books for a country that had waited decades for this moment.

Drake, born in Toronto, had placed the $770,000 bet through gambling platform Stake, with the wager carrying a potential $1,001,000 return. His confirmed profit from Canada’s victory landed at approximately $231,000.

He disclosed the wager on Instagram before kickoff. And the post, which referenced South African DJ Black Coffee chirping at him in the DMs, generated millions of views within hours of publication on Sunday, June 29.

Drake wrote, “@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM; I had to raise the STAKES.” Fans tracked the wager as obsessively as the match itself, with a screenshot of the bet circulating widely across social media platforms throughout the evening.

South Africa’s defeat ended Bafana Bafana’s best-ever World Cup campaign. Yet they had already made history, reaching the knockout stage for the first time after finishing as Group A runners-up, having qualified for the expanded 2026 tournament ahead of Nigeria.

Both nations entered the Round of 32 chasing their first knockout-stage victory in World Cup history, having finished second in their respective groups. South Africa controlled possession for long stretches. They never truly threatened Williams’ opposite number.

Canada received a major lift in the 75th minute when Alphonso Davies entered the pitch for his first World Cup appearance, returning from the hamstring injury that had kept him out of the entire group stage.

Alistair Johnston’s long ball into the box was headed clear by a South African defender directly into Eustáquio’s path. He struck it without hesitation. Coach Jesse Marsch gathered his squad after the final whistle and told them, “You guys are Canadian heroes.”

Canada will face the winner of the Morocco-Netherlands Round of 32 tie in their Round of 16 fixture, scheduled for July 4, 2026. And for a program that missed four consecutive World Cups, the bracket still reads like something borrowed from a dream.

Drake has been a Stake ambassador since 2021, routinely posting multimillion-dollar wagers under the username “DeepPockets6” across the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, UFC championship fights, Formula One, and the World Cup, turning each event into a social media spectacle.

His betting record carries notable scars. During the 2022 World Cup, an £837,000 bet on Argentina defeating France in regulation was undone by Kylian Mbappé’s late equalizer, which forced extra time and voided the wager despite Argentina ultimately lifting the trophy.

In June 2025, Drake disclosed publicly that he had lost more than $8 million in a single month. A Bloomberg Businessweek investigation later found he won stake games tied to parent company EasyGo at four times the average player’s rate.

Stake called those findings “categorically incorrect.

Sunday’s payout also drew fresh commentary on the so-called Drake Curse, the widely held belief among sports fans that his public backing routinely dooms the teams he supports. Canada’s winner silenced those voices, at least for one night at SoFi Stadium.
