How Igosave Changed My Life: Kelbenky Opens Up on His Rise from Aspiring Comedian to Digital Star
Success stories in Nigeria’s entertainment industry rarely happen overnight. Behind every breakthrough is usually someone who believes in a young talent before the rest of the world notices.
For fast-rising comedian and football content creator Kelvin Osamudiamwen Idoboiwa, popularly known as Kelbenky, that person was veteran comedian Igosave.
Today, Kelbenky has become one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing digital entertainers, attracting more than 1.4 million followers across social media with a unique mix of comedy, football analysis, and engaging online content. But according to him, his journey to national recognition began with a single opportunity that changed everything.
“Igosave Gave Me My First Big Stage”
Reflecting on the early days of his career, Kelbenky said he will always remain grateful to Igosave for believing in him when he was still trying to find his place in the entertainment industry.
The comedian recalled that one of the biggest turning points in his career came when Igosave invited him to perform at Night of a Thousand Laughs, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious comedy shows.
“Igosave has always been a role model to me. We’ve worked closely together over the years, but what I’ll never forget is that he was the person who gave me my first major opportunity. He put me on the stage at Night of a Thousand Laughs, and that moment changed everything for me.”
According to Kelbenky, performing before such a large audience gave him the confidence and exposure he needed to pursue comedy professionally.
“It opened doors that I never imagined,” he said. “Sometimes, all a young talent needs is one person who believes in them.”
Building a Name Beyond Comedy
Rather than limiting himself to stand-up comedy, Kelbenky carved out a unique space by combining humour with football.
His entertaining football commentary, humorous match reactions, and creative online skits quickly resonated with sports lovers, helping him build a loyal audience across Nigeria and beyond.
Today, his videos regularly generate thousands of views, while his growing influence has made him one of the country’s most recognisable football content creators.
His ability to blend comedy with football discussions has set him apart in an increasingly competitive digital entertainment space.
Recognition for Hard Work
As his popularity grew, so did recognition for his work.
Kelbenky received the Outstanding Social Media Influencer Award at the Yuki Entertainment Award of Recognition in 2023.
Two years later, he was honoured with the Outstanding Content Creator Award at the Inno Production Award of Excellence, further cementing his place among Nigeria’s emerging digital stars.
For him, the awards represent more than personal achievements.
“They remind me that consistency matters,” he said. “Every piece of content is another opportunity to improve.”
Sharing the Stage with Comedy Legends
Kelbenky’s rise has also seen him perform alongside some of Nigeria’s biggest names in entertainment.
Over the years, he has shared stages with comedy heavyweights including Basketmouth, Bovi, Igosave, Acapella, and veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) during major comedy events across the country.
One of his notable appearances came during AY Live Benin 2025, where his football-inspired comedy earned applause from fans and fellow entertainers alike.
His growing reputation has also extended beyond comedy shows.
In 2025, he participated in the African Creators Summit, joining leading digital personalities such as Broda Shaggi, Lawyer Kunle, Ashmusy, and other influential African content creators to discuss the future of digital entertainment and the creator economy.
Giving Back Through Football
Despite his growing success, Kelbenky says he wants his career to create opportunities for others.
He is currently working on the Kelbenky Football Challenge, a grassroots football initiative designed to discover young talents, encourage healthy competition, and use sports as a tool for youth development.
The project, according to him, reflects his passion for football and his desire to inspire the next generation.
“I’ve always loved football, and I know there are many gifted young people waiting for an opportunity. If I can help create that platform, then I’ll be contributing something meaningful.”
Staying Grounded
Away from the cameras, Kelbenky remains focused on continuous growth.
A graduate of Accounting, he believes education, discipline, and consistency have played important roles in shaping both his personal life and professional career.
Although his online audience continues to grow, he insists he has not forgotten the people who supported him when he was just starting out.
“I’ll always appreciate Igosave for believing in me before many other people did,” he said. “That opportunity opened doors, but it’s also my responsibility to keep working hard and making the most of every chance I get.”
