Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged residents to support and re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Yusuf made the call on Saturday while attending the annual Kadiriyya Maukibi in Kano, which brought together Islamic scholars, political leaders and thousands of followers of the Qadiriyya order.
The governor said the gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen unity, peaceful coexistence and support for Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
The event also featured the commissioning of a newly constructed Maukibi platform built by the Kano State Government.
The platform was commissioned by Ibrahim Kabir Masari, who represented President Tinubu at the gathering.
Former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Abdul’aziz Yari, and former Sokoto State Governor and Director-General of the ADV Presidential Campaign Council, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, also attended the event and delivered remarks.
Their participation added a political dimension to the annual religious gathering, which attracts prominent Islamic scholars, political leaders and thousands of followers of the Qadiriyya order from Kano and other parts of the country.
Yusuf’s latest appeal comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and their supporters beginning to mobilise support for candidates and presidential aspirants.
The governor has in recent weeks expressed support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term and called on stakeholders in the North to support the President.
The latest appeal also comes after Yusuf urged Kano residents and political actors to maintain peace, unity and mutual respect ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor’s message at the Maukibi placed emphasis on the need for peaceful political engagement while seeking continued support for the President.
The Kadiriyya Maukibi, however, remained primarily a religious gathering, providing an avenue for Islamic scholars, followers and political leaders to interact.
The annual event is one of the major gatherings of followers of the Qadiriyya order in Kano and attracts participants from different parts of Nigeria.
The commissioning of the new Maukibi platform formed part of the Kano State Government’s contribution to this year’s religious programme.
The newly constructed facility is expected to provide an improved platform for activities associated with the annual gathering.
The presence of senior political figures at the event also highlighted the intersection between Kano’s influential religious gatherings and the wider political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Yusuf has previously stated that Kano would support the All Progressives Congress at various levels during the 2027 elections, including the presidential contest.
The governor’s latest call therefore adds to his public advocacy for continued support for Tinubu as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum.
West Trybe reports that Governor Yusuf’s call for residents to support Tinubu at the Kadiriyya Maukibi highlights the growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, while the participation of senior political figures and commissioning of the new platform added political and institutional significance to the annual religious gathering.
