Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has assured National Youth Service Corps members posted to the state of their safety and welfare, highlighting camp upgrades and directing ministries, departments, agencies and local government councils not to reject corps members assigned to them.

Namadi gave the assurance on Monday during a visit to Batch C, Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse, where he outlined his administration’s investments in accommodation, security and other facilities.

In a statement issued on October 19, 2026, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for corps members throughout their service year.

Describing the NYSC scheme as an important institution for national unity and youth development, Namadi said the programme promoted national integration, mutual understanding, discipline and patriotism among Nigerian youths.

He urged the corps members to embrace the cultures and traditions of their host communities and use their service year to contribute meaningfully to society.

“Your service year should not be viewed merely as a requirement for obtaining your NYSC discharge certificate. Rather, it should be considered a life-changing opportunity to make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of the people you encounter,” the governor said.

Namadi noted that his administration’s 12-Point Agenda prioritised education, healthcare, agriculture and the digital economy, urging corps members serving in schools, health facilities and other institutions across the state’s 27 local government areas to discharge their duties diligently.

He also encouraged them to take advantage of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme to explore agribusiness and other entrepreneurial opportunities that could provide sustainable livelihoods during and after their service years.

On improvements at the orientation camp, the governor listed the renovation of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Multipurpose Hall and the male and female hostels among the interventions undertaken by his administration.

He said the government had also provided 500 mattresses, 200 blankets and three large industrial cooking pots to improve accommodation and feeding arrangements for corps members.

Other interventions included the installation of a 100KVA generator, 10 solar-powered security lights and the construction of a perimeter wall reinforced with barbed wire.

Namadi said particular attention had been given to the section of the camp adjoining the railway station to strengthen security around the facility.

He disclosed that construction of the perimeter fence began in 2026 in response to the ongoing Federal Government railway project, adding that additional contracts had recently been awarded for the renovation of two-bedroom flats, classrooms, the pavilion, toilet facilities and a six-bedroom Block D building for NYSC staff.

The governor said the improvements were part of efforts to address infrastructure needs at the camp and ensure that corps members had adequate facilities during orientation and other activities.

He assured the state NYSC management and corps members that his administration would continue supporting the scheme, particularly in providing the infrastructure and security required for a successful service year.

Namadi also directed all ministries, departments and agencies, as well as local government councils across Jigawa, not to reject corps members posted to their establishments.

“I hereby direct all Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and Local Government Councils across Jigawa State not to reject any Corps Member posted to them,” he said.

The directive is intended to ensure that corps members are accepted at their places of primary assignment and can begin their duties without unnecessary administrative obstacles.

The governor further called on traditional rulers, local government chairmen and community leaders to support corps members and help them integrate into their host communities.

“I charge our traditional rulers, local government chairmen, and community leaders to protect, mentor, and treat all Corps members in their domains as their sons and daughters,” Namadi added.

He urged the corps members to uphold discipline, integrity, humility and patriotism throughout their service year, warning them against social vices and cultism.

The governor also cautioned them against unauthorised travel, encouraging them to prioritise their safety and comply with relevant regulations while serving in the state.

West Trybe reports that Jigawa’s camp renovations and directive against rejecting corps members reflect the state government’s efforts to improve the NYSC experience and strengthen youth participation in public services. The effectiveness of the measures will depend on sustained maintenance of the facilities, adequate security and cooperation from institutions and communities hosting corps members across the state.
