Yobe Mother Seeks Help After Giving Birth To Quadruplets

A 24-year-old mother in Potiskum, Yobe State, has appealed for government and public support after giving birth to quadruplets at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital.

Hajara Ahmadu, a resident of Potiskum Local Government Area, delivered the four babies on Sunday and is currently receiving medical attention alongside her newborns at the hospital.

The birth has brought joy to the family, but the mother and her husband said the financial demands of caring for four newborns at once had created an urgent need for assistance.

Speaking from the hospital, Hajara said she was grateful for the safe arrival of the quadruplets, particularly after losing her first child.

“I have given birth before, but unfortunately, the child died. I am happy that I have now given birth to four children, and I am appealing to the government to assist me and my family,” she said.

She said she was hopeful that support from the government, organisations and individuals would enable the family to meet the medical and other needs of the babies.

The mother appealed for assistance with the care of the newborns, saying the family would face significant financial pressure if left to shoulder the responsibilities alone.

Her husband, Ahmadu Musa Abdullahi, a commercial driver, also appealed to the Yobe State Government and well-meaning Nigerians to support the family.

Abdullahi said his income from commercial driving was insufficient to cover the needs of his wife and four newborn children.

“I am a commercial car driver, and what I earn is not enough to take care of the four babies and their mother,” he said.

“I am therefore appealing to the government and good-spirited individuals to help us. We need support to take care of them and ensure that they remain healthy,” he added.

The family’s appeal comes as the mother and the four babies remain under medical care at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital.

The arrival of quadruplets also presents the family with increased financial and medical responsibilities, including feeding, routine healthcare and other needs associated with caring for four newborns simultaneously.

Responding to the appeal, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency said it would intervene to support the family.

The Director of Search and Rescue Operations at the agency, Dr Ibrahim Muhammad Jalo, said officials would assess the situation and determine the immediate needs of the mother and her children.

Jalo said the agency was committed to supporting vulnerable residents facing emergencies and would consider the family’s circumstances in determining the appropriate intervention.

“We are going to provide the much-needed help. We will look into the situation and see how we can support the family, particularly the mother and the four babies,” he said.

“They need assistance at this critical time, and we will do our best to ensure that the necessary help is provided,” Jalo added.

The official said the intervention would focus on helping the family deal with the immediate challenges associated with caring for the mother and her four newborns.

He assured the family that the agency would examine the situation and provide assistance based on the needs identified.

The development has also drawn attention to the challenges families can face when multiple births occur, particularly where household income is limited and the cost of healthcare and newborn care is high.

For Hajara and her husband, the immediate priority is ensuring that the quadruplets remain healthy while securing the resources needed to care for them after their discharge from the hospital.

The mother said she remained hopeful despite the challenges, expressing gratitude for the birth of the four children and appealing to individuals and organisations willing to support the family.

The family is now relying on government intervention and assistance from members of the public to meet the immediate needs of the newborns and their mother.

West Trybe reports that the birth of the quadruplets has brought both celebration and fresh financial responsibilities to the Potiskum family, with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency promising to assess the situation and provide assistance to the mother and her four newborns. If you want, I can also make the headline more emotional/human-interest while still remaining professional.
