A Nigerian-owned ride-hailing platform is set to enter the country’s transportation market on October 1, offering commuters and drivers an alternative to the international services that have dominated the space. The platform, called ProTaxi, is developed by PromiseLand Innovations Limited.

PromiseLand confirmed the app is already available for download on iPhone and Android devices ahead of the official October 1 unveiling, meaning riders can access the platform before the launch date.
The company said ProTaxi was built to address everyday mobility challenges facing Nigerians, with affordability, safety, reliability and environmentally responsible transportation as the core design principles behind the service.
Drivers on the platform will have flexible earning arrangements, according to the company’s statement, allowing them to set their own working hours rather than commit to fixed schedules imposed by the platform’s operating structure.
For riders, the app offers digital ride booking, personalised location features and multiple payment options. Trip information and driver receipts are also accessible through the platform, giving users a record of their journeys, PromiseLand disclosed.
Safety features include driver verification, real-time tracking, and a ratings and reviews system. Riders can share their live location with family members or friends, letting them follow trips in real time as they happen.
“We believe getting around should be easy, affordable, and environmentally responsible,” the company said in its statement, framing the platform’s entry as a response to cost pressures on both commuters and drivers across Nigeria.
Rising vehicle operating costs have placed strain on drivers and passengers in recent months, and PromiseLand said a locally built platform with knowledge of the Nigerian environment could provide relief on both sides of that equation.
A central part of ProTaxi’s strategy involves electric vehicles and clean-energy transportation. PromiseLand believes broader adoption of cost-effective electric vehicles could lower operating expenses for drivers and support more competitive fares for passengers, making the service more accessible across different income levels.
The company, which has set a long-term goal of making ProTaxi a leading eco-friendly ride-hailing platform across Africa, said its ambition goes beyond building another application and extends to demonstrating what indigenous technology can deliver.
Lawrence Oloche, the businessman and entrepreneur who owns ProTaxi, also leads PromiseLand’s real estate operations. The launch marks his company’s expansion from property development into technology-driven mobility services, broadening PromiseLand’s footprint across sectors it considers essential to everyday Nigerian life.
PromiseLand is already pursuing a project to develop 100,000 housing units across Nigeria, starting with the Federal Capital Territory. With ProTaxi, the company is now extending its work from housing into transportation, two areas it has identified as fundamental daily needs for Nigerians.
The company said its model is intended to create sustainable earning opportunities for drivers while simultaneously giving passengers access to reliable and affordable transportation, addressing what it described as a gap in how the market currently serves both groups.
ProTaxi’s address is listed as 31, Akiru Close, Phillip Benson Close, Abuja. The platform can be reached at support@protaxi.app, and its website is live at protaxi.app, where further details about the service are available ahead of the October 1 launch.
PromiseLand said the platform’s design reflects an understanding of operating conditions specific to Nigeria, an argument the company is using to position ProTaxi against international ride-hailing brands that it says did not build their services with the Nigerian market as the primary frame of reference.
The ProTaxi app is available now for download, with the October 1 date set as the formal public unveiling. PromiseLand has not disclosed driver recruitment figures, pricing structures, or the initial cities where the service will operate at launch.
another e-hailing platform, Uber, made an exit from the Nigerian market during the week which makes the coming of ProTaxi to be at the right time.
