Nigerian singer Davido has ruled out supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, making it clear that his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, can support President Bola Tinubu without expecting him to make the same political choice.
The Afrobeats star, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the position known during an interview with News Central TV while reflecting on his involvement in the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election and the political pressure that followed his uncle’s victory.
Davido said he had not chosen a presidential candidate and would not allow public expectations or family ties to dictate his decision. However, he was categorical about one thing: although his position could change regarding his preferred candidate, he did not intend to support the APC.
The singer’s comments have drawn attention to the difference between his political position and that of Governor Adeleke, who reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition after securing another term as Osun governor.
Davido Says He Will Not Support APC
During the interview, Davido explained that his uncle’s decision to endorse Tinubu did not automatically mean he would campaign for the president or his party.
“My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for President Tinubu. But as for me, I am not prepared to support anybody,” the singer said.
He also recalled supporting different political figures at different points in his life, explaining that his previous political activities did not amount to a permanent commitment to any party.
“I personally haven’t seen anybody in the past. Yes, I have supported Atiku before when we were in PDP, and I even supported in 2015 when APC first did the merger. My late uncle was part of the APC, so I campaigned then,” he said.
Davido subsequently clarified his current position, adding: “But right now, I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, sha. It’s not going to be APC, but everybody should have their own.”
His remarks distinguish between having no presidential candidate at present and ruling out support for a particular party. While he has not endorsed another candidate for 2027, he has explicitly said that he does not intend to support the APC.

Why Davido Says Adeleke Can Make His Own Decision
The singer also addressed the expectations surrounding his relationship with Governor Adeleke, making it clear that being family members does not require them to make identical political choices.
Davido acknowledged that his uncle might have reasons for maintaining a political relationship with the president, particularly where the interests of Osun State are concerned.
“You can’t force me to have a presidential candidate. My uncle might have his personal reasons for the gain of the state,” he said.
The comment offers an important part of the story. Davido was not announcing that his uncle had withdrawn his endorsement of Tinubu. Instead, he was explaining why he did not consider the governor’s decision binding on him.
Governor Adeleke had publicly reaffirmed his support for Tinubu in his acceptance speech following his re-election. In the statement published on the Osun State Government’s official website on August 16, the governor thanked the president for what he described as his support for a free and fair election.
He then declared: “Mr President is a son of Osun State, and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.”
The two positions are therefore clear: the governor has endorsed Tinubu, while Davido has said he has no presidential candidate and will not support the APC.
Davido Reflects on His Role in the Osun Election
Beyond the presidential race, Davido spoke about his involvement in the governorship election that returned his uncle to office.
The singer was outspoken during the contest, using his social media platforms to comment on developments and draw attention to issues surrounding the election. His involvement also attracted calls from members of the public who expected him to maintain the same level of political engagement in the 2027 presidential race.
Reflecting on the campaign, Davido said he believed he had done what was necessary for his family and the people of Osun State.

“For now, I feel like I did what I had to do for the Osun people and my family,” he said.
He also described the political contest as a confrontation with powerful interests, highlighting the influence he believed he had exercised through social media.
“I defeated 17 governors with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions. I defeated them with just a phone,” Davido said.
The statement reflects his view of the role he played during the election. His reference to defeating 17 governors should be understood as his own description of the political opposition he believed he faced, rather than an independently established account of the number of governors involved.
His comments also illustrate how celebrities can use their online audiences to participate in political conversations beyond traditional campaign rallies and party structures.
What Davido’s Position Means for the 2027 Election
Davido’s comments come as political figures and supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.
Although he has not announced a preferred presidential candidate, his decision to rule out the APC establishes a clear boundary around his current political position.
His remarks also show why Governor Adeleke’s endorsement of Tinubu should not automatically be interpreted as an endorsement from every member of the Adeleke family.
For Davido, the choice of a presidential candidate remains personal. He acknowledged his previous support for Atiku Abubakar and his involvement in campaigning for the APC in 2015, but said those past decisions did not determine what he would do in the next election.
The singer has left open the possibility that his preferred candidate could change, even as he maintains that he will not support the APC.
For now, he has not named an alternative candidate, and there is no basis for presenting him as having endorsed another presidential contender.
His position is therefore straightforward: Governor Adeleke can maintain his relationship with Tinubu, while Davido makes his own decision about the 2027 presidential election.
Whether the singer eventually backs another candidate remains to be seen. For now, his message is that family ties, previous campaign involvement and public expectations will not determine his choice.
