Afrobeats star Davido has responded to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo after the governor mocked his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, over his dancing at public events.
Davido, who has publicly supported Adeleke ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election, shared what appeared to be Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council result on his Instagram Story on Friday, August 7.
The post came a day after Okpebholo criticised Adeleke during an All Progressives Congress campaign rally in Osun State.The exchange has since attracted attention online as political activity intensifies ahead of the Osun governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the election for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
How The Exchange Started
The controversy began on Thursday when Okpebholo joined the APC campaign trail in Osun in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as Ambo. Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo also attended the rally. While addressing supporters, the Edo governor criticised Adeleke over his frequent dancing at public functions and questioned his approach to governance.
“Before somebody signs a paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing,” Okpebholo said at the rally, according to Punch. Okpebholo also criticised the condition of roads in Osun, joking that one road he travelled on was a “dancing road” because of the way his vehicle was shaking.
He also urged voters to collect money offered by political opponents but vote for the APC candidate in the election.
Davido Responds With Alleged WAEC Result
Davido joined the controversy on Friday by posting what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story. The singer did not attach a caption or publicly explain why he shared the document. However, the timing of the post led many people online to interpret it as a response to Okpebholo’s comments about.
The document has not been independently authenticated. The Guardian and Vanguard both described it as a purported result, while current reports do not provide independent confirmation from WAEC that the document belongs to Okpebholo.
It is also worth noting that a similar alleged 2008 WASSCE result linked to Okpebholo circulated online before the current controversy. In 2024, the Centre for Democracy and Development’s Fact Check Unit said forensic analysis suggested the image may have been digitally doctored and concluded that its authenticity remained questionable.

Under the commonly used WAEC grading scale, D7 and E8 are classified as passes, while C4, C5 and C6 are credits. Because the document has not been authenticated by WAEC or independently verified, the grades should not be presented as confirmed academic records belonging to Okpebholo.
Davido’s History Of Supporting Adeleke
Davido’s response comes against the background of his public support for Adeleke. Punch reported that the singer has been campaigning for his uncle’s re-election, participating in campaign rallies and recently calling for a peaceful, free and fair election in Osun State. Vanguard also reported that Davido has remained vocal in his support for Adeleke and has participated in campaign activities.
His latest post has therefore added another celebrity and social media dimension to the political contest in Osun.
Adeleke’s Earlier WAEC Controversy
The reference to an old academic record also comes against the background of Adeleke’s own educational controversy during the 2018 Osun governorship race.
At the time, legal challenges were brought against Adeleke’s candidacy, including questions about whether he possessed the required educational qualification.
In September 2018, WAEC told an Abuja court that Adeleke sat for the May/June 1981 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination at Ede Muslim High School in Osun State. The examination body submitted an affidavit and a ledger containing examination records in response to a court order.
The WAEC confirmation became part of the legal proceedings surrounding the controversy over Adeleke’s educational records.
That history has made the decision to bring an alleged WAEC record into the latest political exchange particularly notable.
