Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has commended a N30 million donation and the distribution of 500 motorcycles and other relief materials to residents of Musawa and Matazu Local Government Areas.
The governor said the intervention would strengthen grassroots empowerment and support communities affected by insecurity while assuring residents of continued government investment in security, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure and youth development.
Radda spoke on Sunday in Musawa during a community relief and empowerment programme organised by stakeholders and Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmad, Dujiman Katsina.
The event also featured the launch of the Musawa Development Initiative, a community-based organisation established by indigenes of the area to support communities affected by insecurity and promote sustainable development.
During the programme, beneficiaries from Musawa and Matazu received 500 motorcycles, agricultural inputs, financial assistance and other relief materials.
Radda praised Abdullahi for donating N30 million and supporting the distribution of the motorcycles, describing the intervention as a significant contribution to improving livelihoods at the grassroots.
The governor also commended other individuals and organisations from Musawa and Matazu for donating food items, agricultural inputs and relief materials to families affected by hardship and insecurity.
He further welcomed Abdullahi’s pledge to support the Community Watch Corps in the two local government areas, saying stronger community-based security mechanisms would complement government efforts to protect lives, property and livelihoods.
“Our administration will continue to prioritise areas that directly improve the wellbeing of our people. We urge beneficiaries to use this support productively,” Radda said.
The governor urged residents to maintain unity and peaceful coexistence while encouraging them to cooperate with security agencies and other authorities working to restore stability in affected communities.
He said government would continue to support initiatives capable of improving the economic conditions of vulnerable residents and creating opportunities for young people.
The Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, also called on residents of Musawa to remain united and work together towards the development of the area.
She said sustained cooperation among residents, community leaders and government was necessary to address the challenges confronting the communities.
Speaking at the event, Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmad thanked Governor Radda for his commitment to grassroots development and support for the people of the state.
He commended the administration’s efforts in providing interventions across different sectors, describing the government’s performance as evidence of its commitment to development.
“Your Excellency, you did not plant a fake crop,” Abdullahi said, in reference to what he described as the administration’s achievements.
The programme brought together government officials, community leaders, political stakeholders and philanthropists, with speakers commending the empowerment initiative and the governor’s leadership.
The Chairman of Musawa Local Government Area, Hon. Gingin; Hon. Ibrahim Tukur Ahmed Jikamshi; Hon. Lawal H. Yaro Awe; Chairman of Gwagware Foundation, Alhaji Yusuf Ali Musawa; and representative of Musawa District Heads, Alhaji Sagir Abdullahi Inde, also spoke at the event.
They praised the initiative and called for sustained collaboration between government, community organisations and individuals to address poverty, insecurity and other challenges affecting residents.
The event was attended by former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; Principal Private Secretary, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; members of the Katsina State Executive Council and other stakeholders.
The intervention comes as communities in parts of Katsina State continue to grapple with insecurity, economic hardship and the disruption of agricultural activities.
For many rural households, motorcycles can provide a means of transportation and support economic activities, while agricultural inputs and financial assistance are expected to help beneficiaries restart or expand livelihoods.
The launch of the Musawa Development Initiative also provides a platform for community members to contribute directly to relief efforts and long-term development programmes.
West Trybe reports that the combination of government intervention and community-led support in Musawa and Matazu reflects the growing importance of grassroots partnerships in addressing insecurity and economic hardship in Katsina State. The distribution of motorcycles, agricultural inputs and financial assistance is expected to provide immediate support to beneficiaries, while the proposed strengthening of the Community Watch Corps could complement ongoing security efforts in the two LGAs.
