Nigerian music promoter and socialite Samson Erinfolami Balogun, popularly known as Sam Larry, is reportedly receiving treatment in hospital after a ghastly road accident in the early hours of Saturday along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in Lagos State.
The crash, which occurred in Ibeju-Lekki, has thrown the entertainment community into mourning after it claimed the life of one of Sam Larry’s aides, while also reigniting conversations about the safety of the under-construction highway and the socialite’s controversial public image.
What Happened: Collision With A Parked Trailer
According to multiple reports, Sam Larry’s vehicle rammed into a trailer in the early hours of Saturday. Videos and photographs that surfaced on social media showed the car with extensive front-end damage, highlighting the force of the impact.
The accident reportedly claimed the life of Sam Larry’s bouncer, who was said to have died at the scene before emergency responders arrived. Sam Larry himself was said to have been rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Comedian and MC Mario Wazobia was among the first to draw public attention to the incident. In an Instagram post on Saturday, he wrote “PRAY FOR SAMMYLARRY” and shared additional photos from the scene, stating that the bouncer “tragically lost his life at the scene while Sam Larry has been rushed to the hospital in critical condition”.
As of the time of reporting, neither Sam Larry’s family nor his management had issued an official statement on his condition. The police and other relevant authorities were also yet to release details on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road: A Highway Under Scrutiny
The accident occurred along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, a major corridor in Ibeju-Lekki that has been flagged for prior accidents linked to speeding and poor visibility.
The area has seen multiple fatal crashes in recent months. In November 2025, four persons died and one was injured in a multiple crash along the Eleko–Jetty corridor at Orimedu, Ibeju-Lekki. FRSC officials identified speeding as the primary cause.

The mixed reactions highlight how deeply Mohbad’s case still resonates online. Sam Larry, alongside his business partner Naira Marley, was named as one of the prime suspects after videos surfaced showing Mohbad being confronted. Sam Larry has consistently denied any involvement and told a coroner’s inquest in April 2025 that he never assaulted the late artist.
