The family of the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, Yobe State, Dr Hadiza Usman, has been thrown into mourning following the deaths of her twin daughters two days apart.
One of the twins, Dr Hadiya Usman, a medical doctor, died on Friday, according to a message shared by her mother.
Her twin sister, Dr Aisha Usman, a Doctor of Pharmacy, also died on Sunday, leaving the family to mourn the loss of both daughters within 48 hours.
Dr Hadiza confirmed the deaths in separate messages shared on her WhatsApp status on Monday, announcing the passing of her two daughters.
In her message announcing Hadiya’s death, the CMD appealed to family members, friends, colleagues and well-wishers to remember the family in their prayers following the tragedy.
She later announced the death of Aisha, informing family members, colleagues and friends of the second loss.
The deaths have sparked an outpouring of grief among relatives, colleagues and members of the wider medical community, particularly because the sisters died within two days of each other.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths were not disclosed in the messages announcing their passing.
Hadiya was a medical doctor, while Aisha was a Doctor of Pharmacy, with both sisters pursuing careers in the health sector.
The loss of the two sisters has also drawn condolence messages and prayers from colleagues, friends and well-wishers who have expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
The deaths came as a particularly painful blow to the family, which is headed by a senior medical professional serving as the chief executive of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru.
Members of the medical community have continued to mourn the sisters, whose professional careers were both linked to healthcare and whose deaths occurred within an unusually short period.
