The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, brief Nigerians and key stakeholders on its level of preparedness for the 2027 General Election as the countdown to the polls reaches 100 days.
The commission will hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, where it is expected to provide updates on the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
The event was announced in a statement issued in Abuja by Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN.
According to the statement, Amupitan will address the conference alongside other key stakeholders involved in the electoral process, providing Nigerians with an update on the commission’s preparations ahead of the 2027 polls.
“The national stakeholders’ meeting underlines the Commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem,” the statement said.
The commission said the engagement would bring together political party leaders, security agencies operating under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners and civil society organisations.
Also expected at the meeting are election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.
INEC said the broad participation was intended to strengthen communication and collaboration among institutions and groups with responsibilities in the electoral process as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
“The meeting will bring together political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, and civil society organisations,” the statement added.
The commission is expected to use the engagement to update stakeholders on the status of the voters’ register, nomination of candidates and logistics, as well as other critical measures aimed at protecting the integrity of the electoral process.
The event is scheduled to begin at 10am, with attendance strictly by invitation. Accredited media representatives and invited guests are expected to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
INEC also said the proceedings would be made accessible to Nigerians who are unable to attend physically.
“The event will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed on INEC’s official social media platforms,” the statement said.
The meeting comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections and stakeholders increasingly focus on the readiness of the electoral commission, security agencies and other institutions involved in the electoral process.
The 100-day milestone is expected to provide an opportunity for INEC to explain the progress it has made so far and address concerns surrounding logistics, voter registration, candidate nominations, election security and public confidence.
The commission’s engagement with political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, observers, traditional and religious leaders and other stakeholders also forms part of the broader consultations ahead of the elections.
West Trybe reports that INEC’s briefing comes at a critical stage of preparations for the 2027 General Election, with the commission expected to face increased public scrutiny over its readiness, electoral logistics and the measures being adopted to ensure transparency, inclusiveness and confidence in the electoral process.
