Popular Kannywood actor and singer, Adam A. Zango, has broken his silence on the collapse of his seventh marriage, revealing that he and his former wife, actress Maimuna Musa, decided to part ways after discovering they both have the AS genotype.
The actor made the disclosure in the early hours of Saturday through a post on his verified Instagram page, ending days of speculation surrounding the reason for the divorce.
According to Zango, the decision was based solely on medical compatibility and not on any personal disagreement, as widely speculated on social media.
“Yes, it is true that we discovered we have the same genotype. I am AS, and she is also AS.
“Please, I kindly ask everyone not to turn this personal matter into an issue or spread false information. I only want my fans to understand the reason behind the end of our marriage, while respecting the privacy and dignity of everyone involved,” he wrote.
To further dismiss rumours of a bitter separation, the Kannywood star shared a video of Maimuna leaving his residence, insisting that the recording was made on the day she moved out.
“As you can see, this video was recorded today as she was leaving my house happily,” he added.
The revelation comes barely a day after prominent Kannywood actor, Ali Rabi’u Ali Daddy, a close associate of Maimuna, confirmed that the marriage had ended after speaking directly with the actress. He had expressed hope that family members and elders might still intervene to reconcile the couple.
Zango’s latest divorce makes Maimuna the seventh woman he has married, once again placing his personal life under public scrutiny and reigniting discussions about his history of short-lived marriages.
Over the years, the actor has been married to Amina, popularly known as Mama Haidar, Aisha, Maryam, Maryam Abdullahi Yola, Ummul Kulsum, Safiya Umar Chalawa and, most recently, Maimuna Musa. Most of the marriages ended in divorce, while Zango has publicly acknowledged marrying multiple times and is a father to children from different unions.
His repeated marital breakups have often attracted criticism within Kannywood and among fans, with many accusing him of engaging in aure saki—a Hausa expression used to describe repeatedly marrying and divorcing spouses after relatively short periods.
Health experts have consistently advised intending couples to undergo genotype compatibility tests before marriage, warning that unions involving two partners with the AS genotype carry a 25 per cent risk of producing a child with sickle cell disease (SS genotype) in every pregnancy.
Zango’s explanation has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with many fans commending the former couple for prioritising their future family over public opinion, while others described the development as a reminder of the importance of premarital genotype screening.
