NiMet weather forecast for Monday, October 5, warns of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several parts of Nigeria, with conditions expected to vary from morning to afternoon and evening across the country.
The latest outlook from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency covers the northern, North-Central and southern regions, giving residents a clearer picture of where rain and thunderstorms are most likely today.
For many Nigerians, the forecast matters beyond whether to carry an umbrella. Thunderstorms can bring strong winds, sudden changes in visibility and difficult driving conditions, while persistent rainfall can worsen flooding in vulnerable areas.
NiMet weather forecast for Northern Nigeria

In the northern region, NiMet expects patches of clouds during the morning, with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light rain over parts of Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa states.
The weather is expected to become more active later in the day.
From the afternoon into the evening, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba and Borno states.
This means residents in the affected areas may experience a relatively calmer morning before thunderstorms develop later in the day.
The forecast also shows that conditions may differ from one location to another, so residents should not assume that a clear morning means the entire day will remain dry.
What NiMet forecast says for North-Central states
The North-Central region is also expected to experience changing weather conditions.
NiMet forecasts partly cloudy skies during the morning, with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light rain over parts of Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue and Kogi states.
The situation is expected to become wetter later in the day, with thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall forecast over most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening.
For residents of Abuja and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory, the Monday forecast is particularly worth watching because the FCT is included in NiMet’s wider three-day outlook for changing thunderstorm conditions.
The agency’s forecast for Tuesday also indicates further chances of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in parts of the North-Central region.
Southern Nigeria faces more rain chances

Southern Nigeria is expected to remain largely cloudy during the morning, with chances of light rainfall over parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Enugu, Imo, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
However, the weather could become more unsettled as the day progresses.
NiMet expects thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall over most parts of the southern region later in the day.
That forecast is important for residents in areas that have already experienced repeated rainfall, particularly communities vulnerable to waterlogging and flooding.
The agency’s Tuesday outlook also maintains the possibility of light morning rain in parts of Ebonyi, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, followed by chances of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over most parts of the southern region later in the day.
Lagos weather forecast and other cities
Lagos is not specifically listed among the southern states singled out for light morning rainfall in Monday’s three-day outlook, but NiMet’s forecast says thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over most parts of the southern region later in the day.
NiMet’s separate three-day weather bulletin also gives temperature forecasts for major cities.
For Lagos, temperatures are projected at about 22°C in the morning and 32°C in the evening on Monday.
Abuja is forecast at about 23°C in the morning and 30°C in the evening, while Ibadan is expected to record about 22°C in the morning and 32°C in the evening.
The figures are forecast values, not guarantees of the exact temperature every resident will experience, as weather conditions can vary within the same city and surrounding areas.
NiMet warns about strong winds and heavy rain

The weather agency has also issued practical advice alongside the forecast.
NiMet warned that strong winds may precede rainfall in areas where thunderstorms are expected. Residents are therefore advised to secure loose objects around their homes and other outdoor spaces to reduce the risk of damage or injury.
Motorists are also advised to avoid driving under heavy rain where possible.
Reduced visibility and wet roads can make driving more difficult, particularly when rainfall becomes intense.
The agency further advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during thunderstorms.
The warning is especially relevant during periods of lightning and unstable weather, when electrical surges can damage sensitive appliances.
Flash flood risk remains a concern
The latest daily forecast comes as NiMet continues to monitor flash flood risks during the first 10 days of October.
Its early-October flash flood risk outlook identifies several areas with potential exposure, particularly parts of southern Nigeria and other locations where persistent rainfall, saturated soil, surface runoff and low-lying terrain can increase the possibility of flooding.
Residents in flood-prone communities are therefore advised to pay attention to updated weather information rather than relying only on what the sky looks like at a particular moment.
A short period of intense rainfall can create problems quickly, especially in places with poor drainage or already saturated ground.
NiMet weather forecast continues into Tuesday

The current outlook does not end with Monday.
For Tuesday, October 6, NiMet expects partly cloudy conditions in the northern region, with chances of morning thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Taraba and Adamawa.
Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over parts of Kebbi, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna and Taraba states.
In the North-Central region, morning thunderstorms with light rain are possible over parts of Benue, the FCT and Kogi, while afternoon and evening thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over parts of the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue.
Southern states are also expected to remain cloudy, with light morning rain possible in parts of Ebonyi, Cross River and Akwa Ibom before further chances of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall later in the day.
What Nigerians should expect today

The main message from the NiMet weather forecast is that Monday will not bring the same conditions everywhere.
Some areas may begin the day with partly cloudy or cloudy skies before thunderstorms develop later, while other locations may experience rainfall earlier.
For residents, commuters, farmers and people planning outdoor activities, the safest approach is to remain alert to local weather changes throughout the day.
With thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected across large parts of the country, today’s forecast is a reminder that October weather can still change quickly, even as the rainy season begins to wind down in some areas.
Keeping up with NiMet’s latest updates can help residents make better decisions about travel, outdoor plans and other activities as the weather develops.
