Tunde Ednut Urges Nigerians to Reject Tinubu’s Second Term Bid in 2027

The celebrity blogger, whose full name is Tunde Olaoluwa Adekunle, published the post directly addressing his followers, citing what he described as lawlessness becoming normal, widespread frustration among citizens, and serious allegations surrounding people inside government. The post, shared across his Instagram and X accounts, where he commands millions of followers, quickly spread beyond his usual entertainment audience.

“Look at the direction the country is going,” Ednut said in the post. He questioned whether Nigerians truly want another four years under current conditions, pointing to what he called controversies surrounding many government figures.

Ednut, who holds significant influence across Nigerian social media platforms, did not stop at criticism. He went further, saying he would completely remove himself from conversations about Nigerian politics if Tinubu secures re-election in 2027.

That threat to exit political commentary drew as much attention online as the anti-Tinubu message itself. Many online voices praised what they called consistency on his part, with some describing him as a lone voice standing firm against pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to online responses captured alongside the post, some supporters credited Ednut with turning down APC offers, framing his continued opposition as a principled stand rather than a political maneuver. None of those claims were independently verified at the time of this report.

Ednut also named the forces he believes are driving support for the president. “Many of the people strongly supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said, “are doing so because of personal interests, political interests, or tribal loyalty.” He urged Nigerians to set aside tribe, religion, friendship, and personal benefit when casting their votes.

The post lands at a moment when criticism of the Tinubu administration is intensifying from multiple corners. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, now running on the African Democratic Congress platform, has also called on Nigerians to vote Tinubu out, citing economic hardship and insecurity as his central arguments. Nigeria’s inflation rate has remained elevated, with food prices continuing to strain household budgets across the country’s major cities.

Yet analysts note that Tinubu carries the structural advantage of incumbency into the 2027 race. The APC has already inaugurated a presidential campaign council, and governors across party lines, including Osun State’s Ademola Adeleke, are publicly backing his return.

Ednut’s message cuts against that momentum. He called on citizens to think about the future of Nigeria before the January 2027 election, insisting the country needs to, in his words, get back on the right track.

The blogger stopped short of endorsing any specific opponent or opposition platform. His appeal was framed entirely around blocking a second Tinubu term rather than advancing an alternative candidate or party.

Ednut closed the post with a direct appeal to his audience: “Please protect your country.” He added that he wishes every Nigerian the very best in the next election, ending with a blessing for the country rather than a call to any particular political camp.

The post has generated significant engagement online, with supporters and critics both amplifying the message. Critics of Ednut questioned whether a celebrity blogger carries the political weight to shift votes in a race shaped by party structures, ethnic calculations, and security concerns across the country’s thirty-six states.

Supporters, however, pointed to the size of his following as evidence that the message reaches beyond the political class. Nigeria’s 2027 presidential race is shaping up as one of the most contested in recent memory, and voices from outside traditional politics are increasingly entering the conversation.

Ednut’s warning that Nigeria is not heading in the right direction now sits alongside calls from politicians, governors, and opposition figures all fighting to define what 2027 means for ordinary Nigerians watching their purchasing power shrink and security conditions remain fragile ahead of the vote.
