The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) has explained the reduction in electricity supply hours across its network, attributing the development to a shortfall in power allocated to it from the national grid.
The electricity distribution company disclosed this in a public notice issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, signed by its management.
The announcement comes as customers across its network contend with fewer hours of electricity supply. IKEDC said the amount of power currently allocated to its network was insufficient to sustain the usual supply hours.
In the notice, the company stated, “We wish to inform customers across Ikeja Electric network that the reduced hours of electricity supply is due to a shortfall in the amount of power currently allocated to our network from the national grid.”
The explanation identifies reduced grid allocation as the immediate reason for the supply constraints affecting the company’s network.
However, the notice did not specify the quantity of electricity lost through the shortfall or indicate how many hours of supply customers should expect during the period.
IKEDC Appeals for Customers’ Patience

IKEDC acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the reduction in electricity supply and appealed to affected customers for patience and understanding.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding,” the company stated.
Reduced electricity supply can affect households and businesses that depend on grid power for their daily activities. For customers, fewer hours of electricity may mean adjusting household routines and business operations around the power available.
The company, however, did not provide details of the specific communities or feeders experiencing the greatest impact in the notice.
It also did not announce a timetable for the restoration of normal electricity supply, leaving the duration of the current constraints unclear.
Company Engages Stakeholders to Improve Supply
The distribution company said it was engaging relevant stakeholders to improve the amount of electricity available to its network.
“Please be assured that we are actively engaging the relevant stakeholders to improve the available power supply and will continue to distribute the power received from the grid as efficiently and equitably as possible,” the notice added.
The statement indicates that IKEDC is seeking improvements in the power allocated to its network while continuing to distribute the electricity it receives.
However, the company did not identify the stakeholders involved in the discussions or disclose specific measures being considered to address the shortfall.
IKEDC also did not state when customers should expect an improvement in supply, making further updates from the company important for those affected by the disruption.
IKEDC Promises Further Updates
The company assured customers that it would continue to communicate developments as the situation changes.
“We remain committed to keeping you informed as the situation evolves,” it stated.
The latest announcement provides an explanation for the reduced electricity supply hours but does not establish when the situation will improve.
Customers will therefore have to await further communication from the distribution company for updates on electricity availability and any changes to supply across its network.
For now, IKEDC says the reduction in supply hours is linked to insufficient power allocation from the national grid and maintains that it is engaging relevant stakeholders to improve availability.
