Social media critic VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, has warned Davido to stay out of Nigerian politics, accusing the Afrobeats singer of hypocrisy and questioning his commitment to Osun State’s development.
His comments followed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s public support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign, raising fresh questions about celebrity influence, political loyalty and accountability.
VDM’s Warning to Davido

In a video circulating on social media on October 15, 2026, VDM directly addressed Davido, accusing him of using his popularity and fan base for political interests.
He issued a stern warning to the singer, saying he no longer wanted to see him discussing Nigerian politics.
“Davido, henceforth, I don’t want to see you talking about Nigerian politics again because you’re a user and a hypocrite. You used your fans. Stay out of Nigerian politics, because if you don’t, I will come for you, finish you and expose you completely.”
The statement was a direct challenge to Davido’s political involvement, particularly his support for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the Osun State governorship election.
VDM questioned whether the singer’s political positions reflected the interests of ordinary Nigerians or were influenced by his family’s political interests.
His comments have placed the relationship between celebrity endorsements and political accountability at the centre of the controversy.
Why VDM Brought Davido Into the Controversy

The dispute followed Governor Adeleke’s appearance at the inauguration of Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on October 14.
Adeleke, who became governor on the platform of the Accord Party, publicly expressed support for Tinubu’s second-term bid. His participation drew attention because of the contrast with Davido’s previously expressed opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the campaign for Adeleke’s re-election, Davido publicly criticised the APC and urged people to reconsider their support for the party.
One of his previously published statements read: “Anybody supporting APC in Osun state is an enemy of progress! Lessons will be learnt this weekend.”Another read: “I can never support APC in my life.”
Those statements have attracted renewed attention following Adeleke’s involvement in Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
VDM questioned the consistency of Davido’s earlier political position in light of his uncle’s current alignment. He also alleged that the singer knew more about the governor’s political position than he had publicly acknowledged.
However, VDM’s assertions about Davido’s knowledge and motives remain allegations. The singer’s earlier statements alone do not establish what he knew privately or why he made them.
VDM Questions Adeleke’s Record in Osun State

Beyond the political disagreement, VDM challenged Davido to consider what his influence could contribute to the development of Osun State.
He argued that the singer’s connections, visibility and international exposure could be used to attract investment and create opportunities for residents.
“You don’t care about the people of Osun or Nigerians. It’s all about your selfish agenda and interests. That’s why your uncle has done nothing since becoming governor of Osun State. No infrastructure, no employment, nothing! With your influence and exposure, one would have expected you to help attract investors, development and other opportunities to Osun State.”
The remarks extended the dispute beyond party politics to questions about the responsibilities of prominent public figures to their communities.
VDM’s criticism also raised a distinction between supporting a politician during an election and using one’s influence to promote development after the election.
However, his sweeping assessment of Adeleke’s administration was not accompanied by supporting data in the quoted remarks. His claims about infrastructure, employment and government performance would require examination against documented projects, employment figures and other relevant state records.
Davido’s Old Political Statements Return to the Spotlight

Davido’s earlier comments about the APC have become central to the controversy because they provide a clear point of comparison with the political development involving his uncle.
The singer was publicly involved in Adeleke’s political campaign, while his social media statements expressed opposition to the APC.
Now that Adeleke has publicly backed Tinubu’s re-election bid, those earlier statements have prompted questions about whether Davido’s political position will change or whether he will maintain his previous stance.
The distinction matters because supporting a relative’s candidacy does not automatically establish agreement with every political decision that relative makes.
Likewise, a governor’s support for a presidential candidate does not, by itself, establish that a family member shares that position.
Davido’s own response, if any, would be necessary to clarify his current position. His past comments and his uncle’s recent political activities cannot independently settle that question.
Celebrity Influence and Political Accountability

The controversy highlights the influence entertainers can have on political conversations, particularly when they command large audiences across social media platforms.
A celebrity’s endorsement or criticism can draw attention to a candidate, encourage political discussion and shape how supporters view an election. That influence can become more contentious when family relationships overlap with political campaigns.
VDM’s warning challenges Davido to account for the political positions he has expressed publicly. At the same time, the controversy raises a broader question about whether entertainers should be judged by their relatives’ political decisions or by their own statements and actions.
For voters, the more important consideration remains the record of the people seeking public office. Claims about infrastructure, jobs and economic opportunities are best assessed through verifiable evidence rather than political loyalty, celebrity endorsements or social media arguments.
VDM’s comments have brought these questions into focus following Adeleke’s support for Tinubu’s re-election bid. Whether Davido responds directly remains a separate issue from the allegations raised against him.
