19 Lagos premiere brought Deyemi Okanlawon, Enado Odigie and filmmaker Tola Odunsi together in Lekki, Lagos, as the crime drama received its Nigerian premiere ahead of its nationwide cinema release.

The exclusive screening was held at Fame Cinemas, Lekki, on Sunday, September 6, attracting actors, filmmakers and other entertainment personalities who turned out to support the new Nollywood production.

The premiere also featured several familiar faces from the Nigerian film industry, including Toyin Abraham, Kunle Afolayan, Wale Ojo, Linda Ejiofor, Femi Adebayo, Darey Art-Alade and Kunle Remi.

Okanlawon was among the notable stars associated with the project, while Enado Odigie also attended the Lagos premiere.

The two actors are part of an ensemble cast that includes Stan Nze, Sola Sobowale, Bisola Aiyeola, William Benson, Ademola Adedoyin, Boma Akpore, Tayo Faniran and Charles Okafor.

The production also gives some of its principal cast members responsibilities behind the camera. Okanlawon and Odigie are credited as associate producers, while Odunsi serves as the writer, director and producer.

Their involvement reflects the increasingly collaborative nature of Nollywood productions, where established actors are taking on wider roles in bringing films to audiences.

At the centre of 19 is Ndubuisi Madueke, played by Stan Nze, a young man from Ebute Metta whose difficult upbringing shapes his ambitions and choices.

The film presents Ndubuisi as a talented young man growing up in a family facing serious financial difficulties. His father, described as an honest civil servant, struggles with the consequences of corruption affecting his pension, while his mother also faces hardship.

Ndubuisi’s introduction to technology through a neighbourhood cybercafé eventually changes the direction of his life.

His meeting with Usuanlele, played by William Benson, opens the door to a different world. The relationship gives him access to money, influence and opportunities, but also draws him deeper into cybercrime.

Rather than treating internet fraud simply as a story about criminals, 19 explores some of the pressures surrounding the choices its central character makes.

The film touches on poverty, corruption, unemployment, ambition and the attraction of sudden wealth while following Ndubuisi’s transformation and the consequences that follow.

Why the film is titled “19”

The title 19 has a direct connection to Nigeria’s long-running association with financial fraud.

The filmmakers link the title to Section 419 of the Nigerian Criminal Code, which is historically associated with advance-fee fraud and gave rise to the term “419” that became widely recognised in Nigeria and beyond.

That connection provides the backdrop for a story that moves from the social conditions surrounding Ndubuisi’s upbringing to his eventual involvement in cybercrime.

The film’s approach is therefore not limited to showing the consequences of illegal activity. It also asks what happens when a young person’s desire for a better life collides with limited opportunities and the lure of easy money.

From Barbados to the Lagos premiere

The Lagos premiere marked another major stage in the film’s journey.

“19” previously had its world premiere in Barbados on November 10, 2025, during the GUBA Trade & Investment Forum. The international screening featured members of the production team and cast, including Sola Sobowale and Stan Nze.

The Barbados premiere gave the film an early international platform before its Nigerian cinema release.

Its arrival in Lagos brought the production back to the market at the heart of its story and gave members of Nigeria’s entertainment industry an opportunity to see the finished project before its wider release.

“19” arrives in Nigerian cinemas

Following the Lagos premiere, “19” is scheduled to open in cinemas across Nigeria on September 11, 2026.

Nile Entertainment is handling the film’s distribution, while the production’s official website confirms the Nigerian release date and indicates plans for the movie to reach international markets.

The cinema release will now put the film in front of a much wider audience after months of production, promotion and festival-related activity.

For Nollywood followers, the combination of a recognised cast, an experienced creative team and a storyline built around a familiar Nigerian social issue gives “19” plenty to discuss.

The Lagos premiere may have provided the glamour, but the film’s wider cinema run will determine how strongly its story connects with audiences.

With Okanlawon, Odigie, Nze, Sobowale and the rest of the cast leading the production, “19” is now set to move beyond the red carpet and into Nigerian cinemas.
