Nigeria‘s All-Share Index lost 118.66 points on Monday, falling 0.05 percent to 247,238.74 as market capitalization shed N77bn to N159.511tn.

The Nigerian equities market opened the new trading week with a decline, as price depreciation across large- and medium-capitalized stocks pulled the benchmark All-Share Index below its previous closing level, cutting total market value to N159.511 trillion.
Transcorp Power, Fidson Healthcare, BUA Cement, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, and NEM Insurance were among the stocks whose price losses drove the session’s downturn, according to trading data from the Nigerian Exchange.
Investor sentiment closed negative. Decliners outpaced advancers by 32 to 27, a margin that reflected broader selling pressure across the bourse rather than concentrated exits in any single sector or company.
Sunu Assurance and Transcorp Power led the losers’ chart. Both stocks fell 10 percent each, with Sunu Assurance closing at N3.24 per share and Transcorp Power settling at N219.60 per share at the end of the trading session.
International Breweries followed with a decline of 9.85 percent, closing at N12.35 per share. Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals depreciated 9.78 per cent to close at N8.30, while Austin Laz and Company fell 9.64 per cent to close at N3.28 per share.
On the gainers’ side, Thomas Wyatt Nigeria recorded the highest percentage advance of the session, rising 9.92 percent to close at N3.99 per share, making it the top price gainer for the day on the exchange.
Lasaco Assurance followed Thomas Wyatt with a gain of 9.89 per cent, closing at N2.00 per share. Critical Minerals Financing Corporation rose 9.18 per cent to close at N3.45, while Chams Holding Company increased 7.78 per cent to close at N4.85 per share.
The Nigerian Exchange Group also posted a gain. Its shares rose 6.96 per cent on the day to close at N158.30 per share, placing it among the session’s stronger performers on the advancers’ chart.
Despite the decline in the index and market capitalization, total trading volume rose during the session. Investors exchanged 637.961 million units valued at N57.202 billion across 71,240 deals, a volume increase of 3.81 percent from the previous session.
Access Holdings dominated the activity chart by volume. Transactions in its shares reached 47.575 million units worth N1.369bn, placing it at the top of the most actively traded stocks for the Monday session.
FCMB Group came second on the activity chart with 40.333 million shares valued at N478.246 million, as investors continued to show strong interest in the mid-tier lender. First Holdco traded 34.197 million shares valued at N4.248bn, making it the third most actively traded stock by volume during the session, underscoring sustained confidence among market participants.
Champion Breweries traded 33.152 million shares worth N372.208 million, extending its recent run of active dealings on the local bourse and underscoring sustained retail interest in the consumer goods counter.
Zenith Bank rounded out the top five most active stocks, with 25.442 million shares exchanged at a combined value of N3.228 billion during Monday’s trading session, reflecting continued investor appetite for banking stocks despite the broader market downturn and signaling that institutional players remain confident in the sector’s fundamentals.
The All Share Index closed at 247,238.74 points, down from its prior level, after the 118.66-point loss recorded on the day. Market capitalization settled at N159.511 trillion, reflecting the N77 billion reduction recorded across the day’s full range of transactions on the Nigerian bourse, as sentiment remained largely cautious amid mixed corporate signals.
Analysts attributed the subdued mood to profit-taking activities and investors repositioning their portfolios ahead of anticipated corporate earnings releases and key economic data expected later in the week.
