NNPC Pays N7.9tn to Federation Account in Seven Months

The report, released Tuesday, showed that N3.087 trillion of that total came from revenue earned in July alone. N279 billion was recorded as profit after tax for the same month, according to the document.

Between January and June, cumulative remittances to the federation stood at N6.286 trillion, meaning July’s incremental contribution to the seven-month total was N1.627 trillion, the report confirmed. That single-month figure was lower than the pace set in earlier months of 2026, suggesting some moderation in NNPC’s monthly earnings as the year progressed.

Production figures in the report point to pressure on upstream output. July’s 1.68 million barrels per day compares with 1.72 million barrels per day recorded in June, according to the company, a month-on-month decline of roughly 40,000 barrels per day.

The report did not specify which assets drove the decline, but NNPC, in the document, said, “Production improvement efforts will focus on sustaining high facility uptime through effective preventive maintenance programs and minimizing unplanned downtime.”

Natural gas production for July was put at 7,489 million standard cubic feet per day, the report disclosed. Gas sales during the same period reached 4,581 million standard cubic feet per day, leaving a gap of roughly 2,908 million standard cubic feet per day between production and sales volumes. That unsold portion represents gas that was produced but did not move through commercial channels during the month.

Nigeria has been expanding domestic gas use to support electricity generation and industrial activity while also growing export volumes. July’s gas sales figure reflects how much of that production actually moved through commercial channels, according to the report.

Only 52 per cent of NNPC retail stations were available for petrol sales in July, the report noted at a briefing. That figure means roughly half of the company’s retail network was not dispensing fuel during the period under review, a detail the report did not explain further. The availability rate raises questions about logistics, maintenance, or supply constraints affecting the downstream network.

Infrastructure updates in the document showed the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben gas pipeline, known as OB3, reached 100 percent completion in July. The Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline, the AKK, was put at 95 percent, according to the same report. The AKK pipeline, once completed, is designed to transport gas from southern Nigeria northward, supporting energy access in regions with limited supply infrastructure.

The OB3 pipeline had been at 98 percent completion as of June, according to earlier reports. Full completion of OB3 is expected to expand gas transportation capacity across the country, particularly toward industrial and generation centers.

Upstream pipeline availability was reported at 100 percent for July, the company confirmed. NNPC said key production initiatives included “optimizing export operations at FEPL and Nembe EP” and “maturing and delivering incremental production opportunities across the portfolio.”

The company also disclosed plans for “activation of tandem offloading operations at Akpo and Erha to enhance export flexibility” and said it was working to restore barging operations at Obodo to improve evacuation and sustain output, according to the report.

All figures in the July Monthly Report Summary are provisional, the document noted. Final numbers are subject to reconciliation with relevant stakeholders, NNPC said, meaning the revenue, profit, and production data published this week may be revised.

The N7.913 trillion remitted to the federation between January and July 2026 represents NNPC’s statutory contribution to government revenues over the seven-month period, the report confirmed. States, local governments, and federal agencies draw from that pool to fund operations and services, making NNPC’s performance a direct factor in the fiscal capacity of governments across Nigeria’s three tiers.
