Afrobeats star Davido has declared firm opposition to the return of Osun politicians Senator Fadahunsi and House of Representatives member Wole Oke to the National Assembly, days after Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Accord Party victory in the Osun State governorship election.

The declaration came in response to public speculation about whether the two legislators, referred to as Fada and Wole Oke in online discussions, would reclaim their National Assembly seats. Davido stated his position clearly, leaving no room for ambiguity on the matter.

The development came less than 48 hours after the Afrobeats star had announced he was stepping away from politics entirely. Davido made that earlier statement on Monday, describing Nigerian politics as evil and saying he did not want to participate in it any further.

Governor Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, secured the Accord Party’s victory in the August 15 off-cycle Osun governorship election. The win marked a significant moment for the party and maintained Adeleke’s hold on the state, with the election’s off-cycle timing becoming a point of discussion among political observers and social media users.

The rapid reversal from Davido’s Monday announcement drew immediate attention from his followers online. Social media users pointed out the contradiction between his earlier declaration of political disengagement and his subsequent pledge to oppose the return of the two named politicians.

Discussions among Davido’s followers on social media also included calls for Governor Adeleke to sideline the politicians identified as opponents. The online exchange showed how closely the singer’s public activity remained tied to the political dynamics playing out in Osun State.

Senator Fadahunsi, whose full name is Francis Fadahunsi, had been a central figure in the controversy surrounding the Osun election period. Wole Oke represents a separate constituency and also featured in post-election discussions about which politicians would retain or seek National Assembly positions.

The speculation about a possible return for the two politicians and Davido’s swift public response opposing it highlighted how the singer’s family ties continue to keep him at the center of Osun’s political conversations, even as he publicly claimed to be exiting the arena.

Davido’s Monday post, in which he called Nigerian politics evil, came after his uncle’s re-election. His followers noted the speed with which he moved from that statement to an active political position opposing specific legislators, less than two days later.

The off-cycle vote itself became a point of reference in the social media conversations that followed Adeleke’s win. Observers noted that the timing of the governorship election, separate from national election cycles, shaped the context in which post-election political positioning was now taking place.

Online responses to Davido’s stance on Fadahunsi and Oke reflected a divided reaction from his audience. Some followers backed his opposition to the politicians’ return, while others used the exchange to question the credibility of his stated decision to leave politics.

The broader discussion pointed to the continued influence of family relationships on Osun’s political scene. Davido’s connection to Governor Adeleke as a nephew has consistently drawn the music star into political commentary and action that extended beyond public support during the campaign.

Political conversations following the August 15 result also included calls directed at Governor Adeleke, with some voices urging the governor to take action against opponents identified during the election campaign. Those calls formed part of the wider online discourse in which Davido’s statements appeared.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, and Oke, who serves in the House of Representatives, both aligned with the All Progressives Congress during the Osun governorship contest. Their positioning as opponents of Adeleke’s Accord Party made them targets of opposition commentary from the governor’s supporters.

Davido’s publicly stated opposition to the two politicians returning to the National Assembly, coming within 48 hours of his declared exit from Nigerian politics, extended his visible role in Osun’s political affairs and confirmed that his family ties remain a factor drawing him back into the state’s heated political scene.
